I set up the HR20 last night...everything went fine....I scheduled a recording for tonight but havenot recored anything as of yet.

Watched TV for a about an hour and went to bed.

My wife just called and said that the screen is black...but the info shows up on the top of the screen when she changes the channel...she can also see the guide but the screen shows no picture...what is up??is this the BSB that I have seen refered to.

Is the only fix a Red Button Reset (RBR...I guess it is called?)

That is the Black screen that everyone is talking about.
Yes, just hit the Red Button (RBR)

Man that is a bummer....I haven't recored anything....would it potientially help to switch to component instead of HDMI...I think I read this.

Maybe I should go to to standy by at night as well....and maybe get a UPS.

The wife will not put up with this...I really don't want to have to spend money on an HR10

Funny...I just taught the wife about RBR over the phone...

I should get her a user name here...you know make her pull her weight and contribute to this process.

I have never "fixed" a problem by using component instead of HDMI. So I would say "no". The only solution is for the programming of the firmware to get sorted out. For me the latest version (11B) is by far the most stable and trouble free. But I still have issues.

Mine did not either. But I was able to convince her otherwise...

Day 1 of my second HR20. This all started when I called DirecTV about a persistent problem with my HR10-250, which when connected to my Sony 53XBR300 (I know it's old, but still going strong) the screen would flash, scew, or go blank and cause the resolution to display on the TV (Video 5 - 480i, 480p, or 1080i). They sent out a tech who infomred me I needed a new receiver. Called DirecTV, they sent me a re-furb HR20-700, what a piece of ....... It had every problem listed on this site. So DirecTV sent me a brand new HR20-700. Hooked it up yesterday. Recorded American Idol for the wife, the replay of the Bears Saints game, scheduled some recordings of a couple of shows, not one problem. Checked everything out before I left for work this morning, and no problems.

I did notice that the boot process is a bit different, the "Step 1 of 2" is gone, replaced by just a DirecTV logo screen followed by an acquiring data from satellite, then it's up and running.

Monitoring by the minute and will update here.

Nope. Yours is working just all of the rest of ours.

I've noticed that when I use HDMI, I don't see the first boot screens. I hooked up a compnent cable and then I was able to see the first boot screens. Not sure why, maybe it has something to do with the native or display settings.
