I have noticed with my 6000, using the 8VSB mod for OTA channels that almost every MOVIE that I watch (not news, sitcoms or anything else), I get a lot of jerky movement with panning shots.

It doesn't matter what resolution I am watching or if I am in SD or HD mode. ABC seems to be the worst. I don't know if the 8vsb does a bad job of 3:2 pulldown conversion or what, but I can't stand watching the jerky movement in these movies.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks.

I have no problem watching movies on my local OTA channels with the 6000. Sounds to me like a problem with your local stations' encoders that are introducing the problems. My suggestion is call your ABC affiliate and talk to the engineering department about the problem.

Hmm, interesting. If it happens on all of your local stations you might try to exchange the 8VSB module to see if that helps.

And watch the dish tech try every excuse under the sun to prove that the module is working just fine. I know it happened to me, but I persisted and vola the replacement module fixed all of my reception problems (except for PBS, using the mouse and wheel to power their digital transmitter here).

This weekend we have 3 local digital movies on Sunday night at the same time so myself and a buddy are going to view them at the same time and compare what we see. If mine jerks and his doesn't, I will borrow his 8vsb mod and see if mine improves.

Here's an update: I switched back and forth last night between all 3 movies (Armegeddon on ABC, James Bond on CBS and The Fugitive on FOX). The channel with the most jerking was Fox (no comment).

While watching Armegeddon I saw some jerking so I switched over to my 501 which I had set to the same channel, rewound it, watched the same scene and the jerkiness was there as well.

It appears to be a production problem, maybe I am just more sensitive to this issue than most people? When I see it again, I will test with the 501 again to verify.
