SD-DVR40 Tivo DVR - Confused about dual live buffers.

I could have sworn that this machine had DLB, meaning that when I switched back and forth between the same two channels, it would keep up to a half hour of the channel I wasn't watching so I could go back and rewind it.
Now, when I switch between the channels, everything is lost.
Am I wrong? Did I never have it? Did it go away? I am so confused.

Be sure that both tuners are actually connected and enabled. Check under "Messages & Setup" -> "System Information" to be sure that it says both tuners are enabled.

How are switching between channels? If you simply change the channel on one of the buffers, then that buffer is reset. To switch between buffers, bring up the channel banner (press "Display" or "Info" on the remote). Then press the "Down Arrow" key to see what's on the second tuner/buffer.

Or just hit the Live TV button on the remote to alternate between the two tuners

Yup, that's what I was doing wrong. I was entering the channel number.
