I have had this problem for some time now, I do not have any operating phone jacks in my house, I have been using Vonage for about 4 years now.
For the phone its not a big deal I have a wireless phone system through the house, for DTV its more of a pain.
The two receivers I have up stairs one is in the same room as my Voip box, the other is in a room that backs up to the room with the viop box, so I can split the phone cable coming out and run it to both of those receivers.
The problem comes in for the HR20 in the family room, the house is fairly large and that room is probably the fartherest away from my where the Voip box is.
While I have a perfect network signal in that room, using a wireless telephone jack to extent the dialtone down there just doesnt seem to work. When it does work its static at best.
So I plan on getting a gaming link to hook the HR20 up to my network in the next few weeks, my question is, since I currently order my PPV on the net anyway so I can get them to play on the HR20, will the HR20 be able to order PPV on its own once its on the network?
I did a search but I am not sure I worded the question right because I dont see the answer.

No, at least not now.
The HR20 does not use the Network, to do any communication back to DirecTV at this time.

Ok thanks, any suggestions short of running a line all the way down there?

I look at your avatar and keep forgetting what you are asking.

I too have Vonage. What I did was go to my networking box outside the house, and disconnect the house from the phone line provider, then I plugged my Vonage router into a phone jack in the wall. Now, any time I connect a phone to a plug in the wall, it connects to the Vonage router. Perhaps something like this could make your HR20 more accessible to your Vonage router?
Also, I'm not positive about this but if you order online doesn't PPV become available on all your boxes, whereas if you order from a specific box via the phone line isn't it only available to that box?
Ditto to the other poster concerning the avatar.

I'm sorry... I forgot the point of this thread...
Oh ya...
Okay... Other then purchasing online, or going with one of the phone-line adapters that run over power lines...

Haha Thanks lol
That sounds like a great idea because I do have a jack in that room I heard Vonage actually will do this for you if you like (but it costs $99). I think I will take a look at it.
As for ordering on another box yes it works for all boxes. But this is the only box I have downstairs the rest are upstairs on the other end of the house. Basically I want to beable to sit my lazy a$$ on my chair use my Harmony 720 and not get up lol.
Thanks for the suggestion that sounds like it may be the best way to go.

One more thing to keep in mind. My house had two separate networks of phone lines. Some rooms were on one network, while some other rooms were on the other network. What I did to get around this was put my Vonage router in the room that had a jack for each network, then I split the output coming from the router and connected it to both phone plugs.
Haha Thanks lol

I used to be able to order several PPV titles on my DTV reciever and then plug them in once a month to the phone line but the HR20 doesnt seem to allow this.

It works the same way... the PPV purchase limits are all part of the Access Card... The problem is, by "default" the limits on the access card as set by the HR20 are $10... which is less then 3 PPVs (in most cases).

Are you referring to the $10 default amount set in the "locks and limits"?
If yes, then ...
1) that's not used unless you lock the ird.
2) that is the "limit per event" controlled by the customer.
If no, then ...
your talking about the "cumlative limit" controlled by D* and gets set when they activate the ird. I would think this can be changed by D* if you regularly buy many ppv's and call them to ask for a limit increase.
Am I correct Earl?

If worse comes to worse, and jodavis can't get the limit increased, then wouldn't an effective solution for him be to hook up the phone line and force a call after every 2 movie purchases (assuming $3.99 per movie) instead of once a month?
Trouble with that solution is he wouldn't be able to buy ANY event on that HR20 which costs more than $10.00

Main trouble with that is that I dont have a phone line in my house. What I used to do is about once a month just pack up all the receivers and take the to my parents across town and let them be plugged in over night. They would all make the call to D* and then I would get billed. Now I just signed up for netflix because it is too much of a pain.
