Well I received receiver #3 (HR20) yesterday afternoon. #1 had dead Sat #2 tuner. #2 had nearly dead OTA tuner #2. Pulled #3 out of the box and hooked everything up. Checked everything I could think of before calling D* to authorize the thing. Both sat tuners were happy and both OTA tuners were happy. I got demo channels on 100 and 201. OTA was working well, so I called a CSR to authorize the receiver. You guessed it!! The receiver would not authorize!! Uploaded current software, did 2 RBR, 1 unplug reset, 1 recorder reformat. And after multiple hits the box just would not authorize. Oh yeah triple checked receiver numbers and authorization card numbers. Soooooo, after 2 hours on the phone and no joy, receiver #4 is on it's way. Will this ever end?
By the way, I took my H20 out of the bedroom and hooked it up in the living room where the HR-20 is supposed to go and of course everything works fine.
If anyone with any juice from D* really does read these forums can they please help????!!!!!!

I had something like this the last time I activated. After some run around, D* finally sent me to the access card group, where within 5 [well 10 total] min I was set. I asked what she did? Her answer: "nothing". Some CSRs have computers with "the right keys" and others are limited. This is much like your "user login" at work. If you're the boss: you get it all. If you're in the stock room: you get parts info.
You might try another call & get transfered to the access card department.

Number Three is dead?
It continues to sound like a lot of the HR20s are actually "Number Two".

Maybe it just has to go "number one". :)

Well I took Very Old Schools advice and called D* and asked for the Access Card Group. They tried to authorize receiver for about 15 minutes with no joy. The receiver #3 is officially dead and it is indeed a piece of #2. LOL!!!!!!!!!

I'm really getting to hate D*s "reconditioning". While I don't think there is anything wrong with a "reconditioned" unit, I do expect someone to test the unit COMPLETELY before putting it in the box to ship.
I hope someone from D* will read this and get the idea!
Yes, Earl, I still don't think D* is doing their job.

I have always had problems activating mirrored receivers ... every time. The first-level CSRs have me go through the reboot process, etc., and eventually bump me to a tech. Now I just ask to go directly to a tech. The explanation they gave me has to do with sports package subscriptions which have "expired" and they need to do some magic to activate. Only happens with mirrored receivers, though. Who knows?

Who knows?
I don't but: I learned from D* that you have a "master" unit and that some sports programing is mirrored to the other units through the phone connection from your master unit. I don't have any sports packages so I can't do any testing to prove this, so as always it could be just BS.

No kiddin!! It took them about 4 tries to get my call routed from the CSR to the Access Card Group. Talk about snakebit!!!
Reminds me of an old master chief petty officer I used to work for. Every time he and I had the duty together things would become a big disaster. He told me it had been that way for him ever since he was the petty officer of the watch on the USS Nevada at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. I don't know if he was pulling my skivvies or not.

Been there, done that. Nobody ever wanted to have "weekend duty" with me either. Every Aircraft would know I had the duty & come down trashed...
