I'm new to the Southern California area and am trying to find out if my zip code (92061), which is in a fringe area, is covered by FSN West's spot beam. I cannot find the info about it on their web page nor any contact info.

I assume that when they do carry a FSN HD game that it's on 95. Is this correct?

Someone out there must have had this experience and knows the answer.

What DMA are you in?

THe RSNs are spot beamed to only 1 DMA at this point, I'm assuming FSN West is the Los Angeles DMA, but I could be wrong on that one.

At any rate, if you're in the DMA to receive the RSN in HD it would show on channel 96 or 97.

Channel 95 is an unused MPEG2 channel that D* uses to broadcast all kinds of things. They'll pick up the occasional NHL, NBA, MLB game. Depending upon the feed they pick up you may or may not get the game (ie if they pick up a SHarks road game from the home teams RSN, I would not receive the game because it is not the FSN Bay Area feed...)

Sharkie,

I was one of the first 50 to get season tickets back in 89. Went for ten years. I'm still a big fan and am trying to figure out a way to get their games in HD. I used to live in Santa Cruz but moved to SoCal 4+ years ago but didn't tell D* I moved so I could keep getting the games for Sharks, Giants, and Warriors without having to subscribe to CI, NBA, and MLB. Plus, I had waivers for all the networks which would have been in jeapordy if I told them I moved.

I think you may have told me one problem. 96 and 97 are broadcast in Mpeg4? If so, I'll have to change out to the new receiver but face the issue of spot beaming or not. Do you get the Sharks in HD in Watsonville on D*? Do you know if the coverage is zipcode related because of legal issues or spotbeaming? If it's legal issues and not spotbeaming it might work by just going to Mpeg4.

What do you think?

Jack,

Sorry about that, I didn't realise that I was responding to the same person

In regards to receiving the HD programming on 96 or 97 you will need MPEG-4 Compliant hardware, which in the case of D* would mean either a H20 or HR20-700 model at this time.
