View Full Version : Update tomorrow?

I just got a call from the office of the president in response to a letter I sent.

When I complained about problems, he indicated that tomorrow we should be getting an update to solve some of the issues.

Can anyone (especially Earl) confirm this?

I was trying to get out of my commitment in case the HR20 is not stable in a couple of months. All he offered was reassurance that a lot or resources were being poured into it. Nothing new there.

Looks like 120 is coming tomorrow, can't you see the dark clouds forming?

Others have already noticed that 0x120 is in the stream and you can force it.
I don't have confirmation if it is going to be pushed by tomorrow... but it is comming.

They have a significant amount of resources on the HR20 team.

Did they have the same amount of significant resources back in September? Just curious, seriously.

Yes, I beleive the resource level has increased, when compared to September.
But I don't know by what exact "volume"

Thanks. So the initial frustration/criticism of Directv back in the early days and every step of the way did play some role in their marshaling more resources to get it fixed, right? As much as reporting bugs, problems, etc., the pushback from unhappy customers, bad reviews, etc., all played a role in Directv finally getting serious and devoting the proper resources to getting the HR20 fixed. Agree?

My point is there are many roles you can play in making a difference. Sometimes, all the "whiners, complainers" and critics also can effect change. Maybe if people had sat on their hands, and not pushed hard (through DBSTalk.com, of course), we would still be getting limited downloads/fixes, despite the numerous early problems.

There are other examples in history of how consumers voicing their displeasure with a product have resulted in positive change. I'd venture to say that not a single critic of Directv, through all this, had anything but the desire to have a working, reliable HR20 as the endgame. We all just wanted it to work, though we had different styles in trying to make that happen. And it seems we are on the verge of that happening, wouldn't you say?

Or in his case, he acknowledges there are problems with the HR20, yet when he "invaded" the unit, was unable to locate them. :D

I would say, for me personally, 10b was the best release for my receiver. Ever since 11b, I have had OTA issues and most recently, BSOD's which I NEVER had before. Hope for your sake, your good luck continues, as it seems mine has run out. :(

I had my HR20 installed last Sunday, during which 0x11b was downloaded. So far, everything has worked to perfection (although I think the box is a little noisy, but I understand that's normal). I had dimmed the front lights out, and this morning when I came out of standby, they were back on. I suspected I'd received an update, checked, and saw 0x120 was current. My 2 cents...there's a lot to like (about this device....though I have a load more learning and poking around to do...just about all of my viewing thus far as been fixed on the "Blue Angels" series on DHDT....)

Just as it sounds... Automatic.

The HR20 get's a message from DirecTV, that there is a software version that DirecTV wants it to install.

HR20 does a little checking on it's todo list...
And if everything is "clear" for the next hour... it does the update.

You may already have it. I forced 120 during the "cutting edge" window Monday night on one machine. Our other HR20 got it automatically early this morning (I noticed the "light circle" was back on, so looked at system info and confirmed the update).
