Anyone know what the upgrade for the PVR that was sent last night was about? I had a program recording at 4:00am but 3 mintues into it, it quit because the update tripped it.

wonder if you or anyone chooses: "do not download without my permission" - i think doing that will not Quit your recording...
And i think when you shut the PVR off - and then will put it back on - you should be offered Upgrade..and at that point you can take it...
Unless you missed it and they are not offering it again...
Then you have to find out from other sources what is the latest version - and choose "autodowload New features" again..shut IRD off and you ll get it after a while...

Just typing all this - with regards to "not spoiling the recording"
hehe
Oh ya...actually - i thought - if the IRD is on - like recording or something - they can't give you new software upgrade...(probably for those little things as recordings etc)...I thought IRD had to be off to get the upgrade...could be wrong though - but it makes sense...
In that case - there probably wasn't any upgrade for you...just something else weird happened - who knows what - but examples would be: Bad weather, weakened signal for some reason, or simply IRD just "coughed" for some reason :)

ya...actually judging from the link provided above - some ppl were on 165 version and some were getting 166 - going back a week or so....so ppl can get it few days quicker then others...so check your software version to see what version you are running and you ll know..go to Menu/System setup/Install and then Sys info..or on newer machines/remotes - just press Sys Info button on remote..and you ll see..
I still think one can't receive new Software upgrade with IRD being on (example recording, etc)
Or am i wrong?

I've been getting updates on my 2 receivers (a 4700 and 2700) and they are almost never shutoff.

Dish has the ability to forcefeed an upgrade down our throat whether we want it or not. Past threads have indicated that people were forcefed upgrades after a certain time period of not accepting them.

As far as the original post, if it is a scheduled upgrade, your receiver should not have accepted it during a recording or in a power on state.
