My local Fox affiliate (WTIC) in CT is not broadcasting any closed captioning on the HD broadcast. The SD channel is fine. Channel 88 is fine. Do you think this is a problem at D* or the affiliate? We noticed it on American Idol first, and I figured it was just on that broadcast. But upon further testing of recorded shows that the wife doesn't watch, I've got the same problem on 24 & Prison Break. I even checked a couple of shows this morning, and the HD has no captioning, but the SD channel does.
I've sent an email to D*. We'll see what they say. FYI, this is on an HR-20.

Chances are this is your local affiliate's issue. I got CC on my OTA-HD Fox last night on both the HR10 and HR20. Fox national does send the CC code, so the problem could have been--if this is an MPEG4 channel--either in the MPEG4 or at your local Fox station with some switch they forgot to flip or something. Let your local station know about it too.

I'm having the same issues....the SD and OTA broadcast have CC but the HD does not. As I posted elsewhere I called the local station and talked with the Eng. and he believes it's in the D* encoder. The Tech at D* believed there was something wrong with my HR20 and wanted to send me another one. When I refused she then blamed it on my Panny tv and told me to call Panasonic.
I am not getting CC on either my HR20 and my H20...my other local HD channels have CC.

It wouldn't be your TV, since the CC on ther HR20 is independent of your TV. That's like saying a glitch in your guide would be the TV's fault.

The Panny tech said the problem was with the HDMI connection...that CC is not passed on through HDMI. When I told her that I was getting CC via HDMI from both my HR20 and my DVDR (which is also connected by HDMI) she said I was one of the lucky ones as that (CC) shouldn't work with HDMI and that I should hook up my set via component.:nono2:
The Panny Owners manual does state that to get CC by HDMI the CC must be turned on at the source,ie:HR20/DVD player etc.

Addendum to above post. I guess I could try hooking up my tv with the HR20 by component, turning off CC on the HR20 and turning on CC at the tv and see what happens but that is going to be a bit of a pain in the hiney.

Don't bother--CC won't go over componant. Only SVideo or RCA jacks.
If the HR20 isn't passing CC, it's likely not getting the CC to pass. Say what you will about the HR20's CC problems, it does decode it in some way, if not the perfect way.
If this is MPEG4, the issue is that. Have you tried over the air HD?

I have my other Panny connected to the H20 by component and it does pass CC.
CC is there on OTAHD-Fox but not on SATHD using the HR20/H20. I don't know about OTA with the H20 as I don't have it hooked up to an antenna.
The new software,120, has generally improved the CC to where my GF is now happy with it.
