I just got a new HDTV and want to upgrade to the HR20 and 5 LNB Dish. D* gave me an install date 2 1/2 months from now. If I hook up an OTA antenna to pull in the HD Locals and buy an HR20 at BB and install it myself, will the HR20 work ok with the older 3 LNB dish? Will I be able to get the other non local HD channels through the old dish? Does the the HR20 use more hard drive space the store HD OTA locals due to the smaller compression put on OTA broadcasts?

Yes you can get the National HD channels with the 3LNB dish.

Yes MPEG2 OTA HD takes up more room than MPEG4 DirecTV provided HD.

Yes!!! That's my present setup. I get all the majors via OTA in HD here. Its great. Get a good antenna, have it pointed correctly and feed direct to the HR20. You can wait til better weather and more sats withHD to go with the AT9 or slimline.

You might not get your local RSN in HD because I THINK they are broadcast from either 99 or 103 satellite, depending on your region.

My current setup is the 3 lnb and OTA and it works fine. 2.5 months is a long time for an install where do you live , the North Pole ?
