I have to say that I am impressed the way that my service was handled recently by Directv. My unit crashed and there was no way to bring it back to life. I had the technician go through various things that would not work and then she put it in the que to send out a new system. The unit arrived the next day and after plugging it in and calling for activation I was up and running again. No charge, no pressure on my part they just fixed the issue and now I can move on. Now I can see the Bears win the Superbowl in glorious HD and record it to boot

And make sure you hang on to your paperwork. My first HR10's hard drive went out and DirecTV responded just as quickly and cleanly as they did for you. I sent the bad unit back per instructions within a couple of days; six months later, a $999 charge showed up on my bill for the unit they indicated that I hadn't sent back... It took some digging, but I found the receipt from FedEx indicating I had at shipped it from their local depot and DirecTV credited my account.
I was lucky - I generally don't keep up with paperwork not related to my income tax returns, especially for 6 months.
