View Full Version : Are multiple vip622's receivers possible?
I have three HD tv's hooked up to dish network right now using two receivers. One receiver is the vip266 powering two tv's and the other one is the standard HD receiver. The problem is that now everyone loves the ability to record and pause so much that they want every TV in the house to be able to do it.
Since the standard HD receiver can't do it can I just buy another vip266 and run 2?
Since the standard HD receiver can't do it can I just buy another vip266 and run 2?You would have to buy a ViP622 for each additional HDTV that you wanted DVR functions on. It may be possible to add another ViP622 as a lease machine a year after you got your current ViP622, but I think you might get nailed by the leased tuner limitation.
You can buy a 622 and put it where the 211 (non-DVR) is now w/o needing additional equipment. To add it as a 3rd receiver, you'd need a DPP 44 switch as well.
I'm not clear on "every TV in the house to be able to do it". If you are feeding two HDTVs from the current 622's TV1, why not just send the TV2 Home Dist coax to all the other TVs? Or do they need to be HD TVs too? You will have the problem of everybody agreeing what is on TV1 and TV2. You can combine two 622's to go to the rest of the house as well.

I've been thinking about this - couldn't you just wire TV A with HDMI and then run component to TV B. You wouldn't be able to watch different things so maybe that would defeat the purpose, & you may get signal degredation depending on the length of the cable run...but it would work right?

I don't want a third receiver I just want DVR abilitiy on three tv's. Basically right now I have one tv that is the odd man out with no DVR abilitiy. So I can just buy another vip622 and set it up and it is as simple as that?
You'd need to confirm that you have a DishPro Plus Twin feeding your two current receivers. As long as you do, you would be able to feed both tuners of the 622 DVR with the single coax now used by the non-DVR 211. Check the System Info screen to make sure the Device used is a DPP and not a DP34 (which could require a 2nd coax cable for the 2nd tuner of the 622.
Before you go out and buy a 622, it can't hurt to 1st ask a CSR if you can upgrade the 211 to a 622. If they say no, I'd still suggest trying yet again with an email to "CEO<at>Echostar.com" saying you'd like to upgrade to a 2nd 622. They may say no too, but the current offer would certainly be less outlay than a purchase.
It would be as simple as unplugging the 211 and connecting the 622, with the exception of needing to short pieces of coax for the separator to feed both 622 tuners from a single coax.
And a belated :welcome_s to DBSTalk!

i just worked through a series of emails to CEO<at>Echostar.com and was able to lease a 2nd 622 before the end of the 1 year period.

Check this link out: http://www.solidsignal.com/dishnetwork/DISH_Pro-DISH_Pro_Plus_Diagrams/DistributionExample10.pdf
This is what I have done. Takes a little work and I have not yet got it all done but so far it seems to work alright.
Also, if you look here: http://www.solidsignal.com/dishpro_installation.asp you will find other documents that may be of interest.
This one in particular might be of help: http://www.solidsignal.com/dishnetwork/DISH_Pro-DISH_Pro_Plus_Diagrams/DistributionExample8.pdf

My current setup is 3 HDTVs - 2 with 622s and 1 with a 211. I have TV2 coax from bedroom 622 feeding family room HDTV coax in and family room 622 TV2 coax out to kitchen HDTV (211) coax in. Bedroom is full function 622 dual recorder. Family room is 622 dual recorder with access to bedroom dual recorder (SD mode). And kitchen is HD with access to family room dual recorder (SD mode). All in all a very satisfactory setup.
Try to get additional 622 instead of upgrading the 211. you need 3 HD receivers to get independent HD to 3 HDTVs. If you can't get them to lease you the additional 622, in the long run it might be worth it to pay the 622 purchase/lease price for this kind of setup. Or better yet, get the leased 2nd 622 and purchase a 211.
