I know this is a rather old question but why was HBO and Cinemax ever seperated when they are basically the same company. Why would somone pay the same amount for Cinemax as you would for HBO when cinemax is only three channels and i think one west coast feed. If it is seperate it should at least be half of the others. Sorry if this has already been posted but it has been annoying me for a very long time and I am rather new to this fantastic board.:D

I agree, especially considering that you don't get Cinemax HD when you subscribe. It is quite annoying that D* has never offered Max HD, even though Dish and every major cable service does.

Cinemax was created back in 1980, when most cable systems were only carrying a single premium channel. It was partly HBO's response to a threat from 4 of the major movie studios, which were threatening to set up their own pay TV channel called Premiere and shut out HBO. In the days before there were multiple tiers of HBO and the other pay channels, it was a way of offering a much greater selection of movies than could be offered on HBO alone.

Dish doesn't carry Cinemax HD either, Time Warner, the parent cable company of Cinemax only offers Max HD in a maybe 3 or 4 non former Adelphia areas nationwide.

Why?
So they can make more money - obviously.

Cinemax HD is one of the channels that will be added when DTV expands its HD offerings later this year.

Soft core porn keeps Cinemax afloat. Take that away, and noone would subscribe.

Cinemax serves the same purpose as the Encore channels, Flix, and the Movie Channel. It plays a lot of older movies that are not normally shown on HBO.

It's the same way on Dish.

So was it HBO that seperated the services or the sat providers. And by the way there is nothing wrong with soft core porn.

Exactly. It's also the reason my wife won't let me subscribe to it.

They weren't separated - re-read my previous post. Cinemax was created as a separate channel back in 1980.

Real men don't let their wives tell them what they can watch on TV. :p

Another good question in addition to Cinemax HD is when (if ever) will they add the other channels in the Cinemax multi-plex. There are 8 different channels, D* only carries 2 of them...meanwhile, they carry all of the different HBO channels (except for HBO Comedy and HBO Zone).

Yep, nothing like channel surfing through 9 continuous channels of softcore porn, after a while it gets a little boring and they repeat a lot :)
does any one know if D* will ever add the other HBO's or MAX channels.
on Fios (http://www22.verizon.com/content/fiostv/channel+lineup/channel+lineup.htm) VA BEACH they offer (14 hbo channels and HBO HD, they also offer 12 MAX channels and the HD feed plus ondemand) and even E* offers a few HBO channels that D* dosn't offer such as HBO ZONE and HBO COMEDY.

Ask again after one of the new satellites goes active in like another 7 to 10 months, because I'm sure the answer until then is "no", since they have no extra bandwidth to dedicate to new channels like that.
