View Full Version : How I got it to lock up

I was watching a recorded program. Phone rang so I paused the unit. After awhile the screensaver came up. As the phone conversation persisted, I hit the power switch turning off the HR20 and the TV (not thinking).
The next morning it did not record a show that was scheduled. That evening I turned it on, and it was still paused on the same scene. I was impressed, but then realized it was locked up. Red button reset.

What channel, and what type of channel? MPEG-4 Local? Mpeg-2 HD, MPEG-2 SD?

As well as any information you have about what the other tuner might have been doing, (most likely the last show that had been recorded.)

Yes I also can lock it up tighter then Fort Knox and it is always having to do with MPEG4 local channels that are being recorded.
Example Last night Recorded, 24 and Heroes both in MPEG4 and same start time. I did a previous channel which went back and forth from 24 to Heroes and watched them to day. (ILL get back to the out come on that in one moment)
But first I then recorded CSI: Miami and Studio 60. I then waited about 10 minutes or so and paused live TV at about 10:14 pm I then un paused after hitting the head/bath room about 3 minutes later and it played for about 8 seconds then went to black screen and nothing worked, not changing channels or trying to power it down with remote. So I did RBR and got it back up and running. Now back to 24 and Heroes I watched them today and where I did the Previous Channel back and forth last night was recorded as ripping on both programs at the same time for a split second or so on each.
D* is going to have to admit one of these days that yes MPEG4 is the Major culprit to most of the HR20 issues. So far HR20 + recording MPEG4 stuff + dual tuners + using remote to do pause or any trick play during recordings = lock ups = RBR

Hummm... I had the same shows going last night. Of course mine worked fine [it had three hours on it from the install]. What my "Hummm" is that I go into the guide to change my channels. I use the "back" button [to the guide] & almost never the skip [or previous channel] button. Hummm...
