Since I'm new to the HR20 I was wondering how the 4 options (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) work with the program on the TV. Does it automatically select it depending on the program? I noticed I can select the one I want, but I'm not sure 1080i is the best for all of these programs? Can someone help?
Thanks

If you have "native" mode set to on, then it will switch automatically. However, the downside is that it takes a few more seconds each time you change the channel, since the resolution has to be set.
Many people set their HR20's to a specific resolution and let it go from there. If you search on "native mode" you should find a number of threads about that.

Also only have selected the formats that your TV can handle.
Mine for example is a native 1080i set. So I have only 480i and 1080i set as formats to send to my TV.
Now if I have Native set to on it will send all SD as 480i and all HD as 1080i.
I personally have Native set to off and keep it pretty much in 1080i mode most of the time but there are times when the SD program in question would look better in 480i so I just use the format button on the remote to switch to 480i mode.
Similar setup if you have a 720p TV then perhaps you'd only have 480i and 720p as the selected formats. I think 480p is there because some HDMI ports on TV's don't allow a 480i signal thus the HR20 needs to convert it to something the TV can get. So in that case you'd only have 480p and 720p or 480p and 1080i as your formats.
