NBR question?

I am new to NBR (just got a 625 recently) and I missed a recording some of it anyway. I have Criminal minds set to record all new episodes. The most recent of which was scheduled 10pm after the super bowl. Of course with all the post game presentaions CM did not start at 10. It started about 25 mins late. I assumed that my new 625 wit NBR would start recording when CM started and adjust accordinlgy. It did not. It recorde the 25 mins of post super bowl crap and ended recording at 11:03. Needless to say I missed the last 35 mins of CM. As I said before I thought the 625 would not do this. I am used to it when I only used my 508 to record so I would add time manually as needed. Do I just not understand NBR or did I need to do something when I set it to record? Any insight that can be offered will be appreciated.

As I said before I thought the 625 would not do this.Name based recording depends entirely on the guide information being accurate. Most consumer DVRs stumble over this issue and will continue to stumble over it.

Even if you knew that the show was going to start after the SB, could you say without reservation that the next show would start then, or be "joined in progress"?

I'm betting that the PSIP information wasn't correct either.

For situations such as these, it is best to set a manual timer starting at the scheduled time and running at least 45 minutes to an hour longer.

Yep. If you check your recording the name is correct, the EPG isn't real time enough to know when the sports ended and the show began.

I just recorded the two shows following the game. My local eventually ran 56-57 minutes of Criminal Minds, interrupted the ending for 10-15 minutes of news, then re-ran the last 7 minutes of the show (apologetically).

There have been times when the EPG info for current and next show was able to adjust an existing timer start, but those situations only happen when there is a lot of advance notice (Presidential Press event).
