Tonight I DUMPED D and UPPED with DISH. You can read the journey that got me here in the DirecTv section under the HR20 sub heading. Unbelievable! Never thought i would be here, but here I am.

Now-What can I expect as a DISH customer???

Depending on what you ordered, of course.

Better PQ IMO, more HD, less sports. Assuming you are getting the Vip622 HDDVR, a great box to control it all with.

Oh yeah, and confusing web site describing confusing offers!

Indian call center that you will have problems understanding. Software that destroys a perfectly operating receiver. Removing programming because DISH is arguing over the fee paid to the programmer. Feb. 1st DISH dropped their 30 day gauranty of satisfaction so you will be stuck in a contract for 18 mo. Read the posts and you will find D* isn't the only company that misses appointments.:)

If they still use an Indian call center you couldn't prove it by me. I can't remember the last time I talked to anyone at Dish that wasn't somewhere in the US. That's not to say all were competent, of course... ;-)

My first experience with DISH is starting out on the right foot. I was told an installer would be out today(9 Feb)to install my system between noon and 5pm. HE CAME EARLY(11am)!!:D

What type of packaged deal did you sign up for and what is the overall expected cost? I'm seriously ready to dump Charter after all the stuff they've done in the last couple of months.

I recently dumped D* after being a customer for about 3 years. I wanted to upgrade to an HR20, but after reading all of the horror stories and then finding out that DISH was going to offer a "free" VIP622 on February 1, I made my decision. Aside from the learning curve from DirecTV with TIVO to DISH, I have been nothing but pleased. I got a great deal when I signed up, the installer showed up as scheduled, and the HD channels are unbelievable.

There is quite a learning curve when it comes to programming the DVR however. Here is a little tip: The easiest way I have found to program something to record is to use the search button on the remote. Enter the name of the show you want to record and let it search. When the show comes up, select the channel you want to record the show on, set your preferences, and it's done. I spent several hours trying to figure out how to set the timers and DISHPass properly, but finally resorted to the forum (thank god for it) to find this little tip. Hope this helps a little bit. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have so far.

To record, it's an awful lot easier to just browse the guide. Just select a highlighted show and, voilà!, you're in the record menu. Make sure that have selected the guide's expanded view option - I like the one that shows 7 channel rows by 3 hours of programs with the highlighted program info in the upper left and a window with your current program playing in the upper right. Read the book on navigating the guide - there are a lot of shortcuts.

The installer did a great job hooking my three tv's up and I was enjoying the DISH service two minutes after he left. I agree, the HD channels are stunning on my Mits 46231. I gave the DVR a workout last night and it worked flawlessly. One day in and so far I'm very pleased.
