DirecTV's Net Nearly Triples,
Helped by Subscription Growth
By MIKE BARRIS and JONATHAN VUOCOLO
February 7, 2007 8:36 a.m.

DirecTV Group Inc. said fourth-quarter profit nearly tripled, helped by a jump in subscriptions and a drop in the number of customers discontinuing service.

The El Segundo, Calif., satellite-television company's earnings rose to $356 million, or 29 cents a share, from $121.2 million, or nine cents a share, a year earlier.

Revenue in the latest quarter rose to $4.18 billion from $3.59 billion a year earlier.

That's great and all, but why would we care over here at the Dish forum???

And, how do we know what "tripled"... IF they made a dollar, then made $3 this quarter that would be tripling profit, but not much to crow about...

Not enough data and definately the wrong forum to create any real interest.

And, how do we know what "tripled"... IF they made a dollar, then made $3 this quarter that would be tripling profit, but not much to crow about...The net earnings tripled versus 2005.

It must be remembered that DirecTV doesn't do their books entirely according to the SEC model and there were some significant changes in the business model (going to an all lease scenario) and accounting methods between 2005 and 2006.

The numbers are good, but they missed the street estimate by a penny.
