OK, today my phone was dead because of my HR20 using the phone line.
Directv said there is no setting to set what time of day it makes a phone call.

They usually don't know what they are talking about so is there a setting for this?
I also have my HR20 networked on my intranet. From my searching it seems I don't need the phone line connected at all?

What say you oh mighty wise people? :)

Mr. Dumb here...
Pull the phone line if you're networked.
If you need PPV after you run up $20-30 in charges, you will need to plug it back in, if the network doesn't do this now.

Alas, no phone time setting. The HR20 "should" sense phone usage and make its call whenever the line is available. I'm not sure if the timing is controlled by the Access card, trying to dump PPV data and keep the unit authorized to allow PPV via remote control.

You do not need the phone line--but you will lose the ability to order PPV via the remote control. Many of us use the website to order PPV so its not a problem for us.

Oh, and you would lose CallerId if you have it enabled on your phone line and your HR20.

Cheers,
Tom

Last time I tried to use the web-site to order ppv(6 weeks ago I guess) the hr20 wouldn't record/autherize it...did they fix the known issue with the hr20 and website ppv?

This I do not know, alas. I thought I had heard it was working, but I order so little PPV, that I don't know from release to release.

Cheers,
Tom

We do 3-5 ppv/month and after the last time I tried and failed to order over the web-site I haven't tried it since...we use the remote.

Well I'm stuck since I LOVE the caller id feature, lol.
I just hate it when my phone is tied up. I'll have to see how many times it happens.

Thanks for the replies.

I have 4 DVRs and another receiver and have never noticed the phone line in use by any of them. Are you sure that was the cause? Did you hear it dialing, or hear something that sounded like data transfer?

The reason I ask is, several years ago when I first had D*, all the calls were made in the wee hours of the morning. The only time any of my receivers called during normal waking hours was if it had been "loaded up" with PPV orders and was desperate to get a call thru to D*.
