As we demanded...

"Charlotte, N.C. - Raycom Sports and Lincoln Financial Sports will produce the syndicated broadcasts of the 2007 ACC Basketball Tournament in high definition, it was announced today..."

No word on remaining Raycom games this season or football/basketball regular season games for next season... but this is very good and promising news!

Excellent!! There is no better sport in the world than college basketball. Even though I'm a Pac 10 alum, it's pretty tough to beat the ACC when it comes to basketball.

Following up my own thread in between games...

I know the HD is not available in all markets... so I'm curious where and how many are able to view the ACC tourney in HD this year on their local station?

HD here in Raleigh, NC on WRAL-5

I'm surprised it's Raycom providing the HD -- it's really p---ed me off this year that all their Carolina games have been SD. Preeminent basketball school in the country and most games were not HD -- sucks!

Anyway, the tournament games are great (too bad about Clemson, I think Fl St has better depth and will be a stronger opponent -- in their last gasp, of course!)

I was impressed also that late in the game there was apparently a major glitch and the HD widescreen scrambled badly but was quickly replaced by what looked like digital pillar box, then a few minutes later with problem fixed, back to HD widescreen. They deserve real kudos for that one.

Edit: Sorry, forgot your question! I'm still waiting for WRAL to follow through on their offer to settle my reception problem here in Pittsboro, so I'm watching the games OTA from Greensboro, WFMY-DT, 2-1. Simply a better image than WRAL via D*.

I know what you mean. Particularly standing out were the 1st Duke vs UNC game and the UNC vs State games, all of which were in craptacular SD!

My hope is that they are well-received and complimented on the ACC tourney coverage (I know I will email them after Sunday) and it will inspire them to continue into regular season games for ACC Footbal and Basketball next season.

My thoughts as well.. I feel badly for Clemson, as I think they may be out of the NCAA after being 17-0 and the last undefeated team... a couple of bad breaks and losing a lot of 1-2 pt games probably cost them. I think if they weren't robbed in the Duke game they would have won that AND not folded in the final minute of the Virginia game either... and with those wins probably would be already in the NCAA.

But I also agree that I think Florida St is a stronger team. For instance... I could see Florida St beating UNC in a close game if some things go just right... but no way on earth would I have seen Clemson even being in a close game with UNC tomorrow.

That reminds me... I probably should have noted that I am watching WRAL OTA. Dish doesn't have it yet in HD, and besides OTA is much sharper anyway.

You're thinking followed mine exactly (Clemson was ROBBED against Duke!).

Also wanted to say that I WRAL has been very good in helping me with that reception issue I mentioned. I got a note today and evidently had a previous email lost in yayaland. They've really gone all out which I appreciate since my life is far more organized around the Triangle with Triad association being somewhat incidental. IOW, I'd prefer to watch the games (and news, etc.) with WRAL.

Did everyone else watching the last game tonight (Georgia Tech vs Wake Forest) lose HD shortly after the 1st overtime started?

My screen locked for several seconds, then came back and was SD the rest of the game. Still a VERY good game to watch, and I was kinda rooting for another overtime even! But I wish we had HD the whole way through.

I wonder if the Raycom HD equipment turned into a pumpkin at midnight? ;)

I figure it must have been their problem, because I noticed my local (WRAL) didn't have HD highlights for the overtime ending like they did for the other games of the day.

Hopefully things are back in working order tomorrow!

I gave up early on that game -- just too tired. Apparently missed a great game too! So I didn't see the problem, but noticed again in the Carolina game yesterday, they had an HD scramble and cut over to a lower resolution digital (wasn't SD -- too clear) for a while. Stumbled when they tried to get back to HD, dropped back and then came back to HD for the rest of the game. No problems that I noticed in either of today's games. Great outcomes too!

Yeah, I didn't see any problems today either. Also, despite there being no 5.1 surround... they are definately capturing a lot more sound than the typical broadcast, because you can very clearly hear the coaches yelling things at players and sometimes folks in the audience. Good stuff.

I have to say... I was rooting for UNC today, and also for NC State... and tomorrow I will be hoping for NC State to continue the hot shooting, Tyler Hansbrough to be not quite used to the mask still, and UNC to have a slightly off game.

I don't think UNC losing would change their NCAA seeding significantly... but it would be great to see State get in after a miracle run through the tournament. I know they will bump out another ACC team as a result if they do win... but I'll be hoping for them anyway.

I don't think too many folks would want to draw State the way they are shooting right now.
