Just a very easy quick question. Just had the HR20 700 installed recently and I would like to know if you should leave this unit all the time. I am using a Harmony 880 which I can program to leave the unit on at all times. Currently I have it set to turn the HR20 off along with the TV when I am finished watching.

I have a Harmony 550 and have the HR20 set never to turn off. Have not had any problems. I have had the HR20 since mid December and it has always been set this way.

Like the other posters stated, it's a personal preference. The HR20 actually remains on even in the Standby mode. It downloads guide data and performs other tasks like downloading the newest software. The benefit of turning it off will relieve some of the added strain on the hardware but most likely won't change much except for turning off the lights.

I have the Harmony 550, I use it to put the HR20 in standby. I don't like the blue lights when I'm playing a DVD, or using my media center on the 32 LCD TV (PC Monitor right now)

Its up to you.. I don't think it will make a big difference, although the lights and outputs on the HR20 turn off when it is put in standby

You know you can dim or totally turn off the blue light circle ring of LED's on the receiver dont you?

You might want to do a quick search if this interests you....

Mine goes into standby mode everynight. Never had to replace it, reformat it, or call D* about a problem with equipment. It doesn't really matter. About the only thing standby does that on does, is turn LED's on and off and provide a feed out of the connectors. Set up a watt meter on it and see how much it changes for standby/on and I bet it would be very little.

DIM THE FRONT PANEL RING LEDS
On the HR-20 front panel, press the Left and Right arrows at the same time
First Press 90% Brightness Third Press 70% Brightness
Second Press 80% Brightness Fourth Press LED's OFF
Undocumented! - Update Alert: Dim your LEDs. After an update, they will be bright again! Thank you: dougsmith

Exactly my experience. :)

I leave mine on, and use a usb cooling fan. So far (cross my fingers) I've had few problems.
