View Full Version : Dead Transponders?

I've been going through a long list of problems with D* for over a month now. We recently were shipped a HD receiver (not sure what model) to "temporarily" replace our HR-20 that can't download the software updates (that in itself is a long story that I am not happy about). However, we are now having problems on this one, as well as the other SD receivers picking up certain channels. I checked the transponder strengths and found several 0's beyond the usual suspects (4, 12, 18, 20, 26, 28). There were a few that would fluctuate between 0 and the 80's and 3 that were steadily below 50. Of course these are all the channels that we watch regularly. The rest of the transponders are in 80's and 90's

Since this problem is affecting all our receivers equally, I am assuming (maybe dangerously) that the problem is on the other side of the mulit-switch. Is this a case where an LNB may be going bad? Or is it possible that a tree has grown to be a problem? Maybe a cable connection gone bad? I am baffled why only certain transponders are affected. I am also wondering if this was not the precursor to our HR-20 problems.

Since the problem is affecting all your recievers the problem is at the multiswitch, a line (or 2 or 3) from the multiswitch to the lnb and/or the LNB.

Time for a service call.

I was afraid that would be the answer. Thanks.
