View Full Version : Tuning the Dish 500
Had my first experience tuning a Dish 500, with a DP Plus LNB.
It was quite interesting, and to say the least, I left disgusted.
What is the proper procedure to tweaking these in?
Are you supposed to set it up just like a regular dish, line it up with 119W, peak the signal, then rotate the dish till you hit 110? To say the least, I didn't know quite what I was working with. Any one with the proper procedures for fine-tuning and initial tuning these units would be appreciated.

1) Find the correct skew for your location. Turn the dish to that skew and tighten up that part.
2) Line up 119, or 110 if you prefer. If necessary, cover the other LNBF to ensure that you're getting it on the correct one. When the reception on that one is peaked, then the reception on the other will be too.
Okay, so your saying the skew isn't tweakable at all. The skew is always a set number, depending on your location, so I shouldn't try to adjust skew while tuning.
So I should set the skew to what its supposed to be, lock it down, then adjust the side-to-side and up-and-down movement on either 119W or 110W?
Since the Dish receiver allows you to select either 119 or 110, selecting 119 and turning till I get a signal and then verifying its 119 should work also, correct?

10-4. You'll fine tune it more with the azimuth and elevation than with the skew. Set the skew and roll with the other two. :icon_cool
The dish I was tuning was connected to the newer DVR dish offers. I don't like the point/dish screen. It kept screwing up and not offering the results it should've. I'll have to recheck the skew and make sure thats correct, then adjust side to side, and up-to-down movement. Thanks for the tips.
BTW, with the SKEW adjusted statically, it should hit both 110 and 119 at the same time, so as soon as I get a lock on either one I should also have a lock on the other?

If you're getting any decent kind of signals on both satellites with channels that are supposed to be there, then peak one and you'll have the other already peaked.
Huh.. I wouldn't think it'd be possible to get 110 on the 119 LNB, though I suppose if my Dish was slightly higher in the air and pointing 9 degrees to the left it would, lol.
Biggest problem with point dish for the first time, the signal isn't quite where people seem to think it should be as the signal skims across the back plate, not bouncing off in a direct angle.
A little off topic here.
I was looking at the different diagrams for Dish Pro Twin/Quad and Dish Pro Plus LNBF's. What it looks like is I can interface a Dish Pro Twin with a DP34 and get 4 receivers on it, I can interface 4 receivers with the Dish Pro Quad LNBF and get all the satellites (119, 110), and I can interface a DP Plus LNBF to a DPP44 switch to get 4 receivers on 119 and 110?
I assume I cannot interface the DP Plus LNBF with a DP34 and get 4 receivers on it?

A dpp twin will not work long with a 34 switch......too much
A DPP 44 switch runs off of a DP twinn the DPPlus twin is just a waste and sometimes does not work for long. A DPP 44 switch is only good for more than 2 dual tuners are 1 dual tuner and 2 or 3 sinlges where you can only run one single cable to the dual tuner. Otherwise I would steer clear of Dpp 44 switches they are evil!!! and tend to go bad without 3-4 sat inputs.
