View Full Version : Getting an used receiver?
Hi...I am contemplating buying a used D* receiver off eBay . The one I am looking at has an access card with it - what are the pluses/minuses of doing this? My DRD450RG is just about on its last legs - its program schedule rarely works beyond 24 hours, it needs constant rebooting from freezing, etc...
Also- when/if I get the 'new' unit, what do I tell the CSR when I call to [re]activate it? will there be any problems?? Thanks!

You will have to buy a new card from D* for $20.00. Even though the seller says the card is new or cleared you will still have to buy a new one. Remember you don't always get what you pay for from e-bay or any other online palce.

They will probably let you switch your current card to the new receiver.

FWIW: the "card issue" is due to the fact that PPV charges are stored on the card. $20-30 seems to be the limit before it stops working because it can't call in the charge to the account. Changing accounts for a [old] card doesn't seem to work, therefore the $20 charge for a new card. Using a old card from the same account does work.

get the unit's RID number and call D* first, I almost bid on one until I did this and called in and found out it was on an account that was in collections..... They will not activate it if the old account is past due.
