Like you I pay good money for my subscription to DISH but my signal strength from 129 here [for HD] has been so bad lately - you cannot count on watching a whold program or movie from VOOM Channels. They installed two DISH 500's for me..........my question is............because my reception is so PEE POOR from 129 and a 500 DISH.............is there ANY chance that DISH might come out here and replace both these 500's with a NEW DISH 1000.2; or am I dreaming???? As, you well know, sure is aggravating, to say the least, to be paying for these HD channels but cannot depend on being able to watch them.
PS: Checked signal strength yesterday and it went from 50 - 61 !

I am in Oregon as well and have 2 dish 500's installed and 129 is working just fine.
Perhaps all you need is to realign the dish?

I'm also in Beaverton and have two 500's with one for 129. I used to get dropouts frequently - every half hour or so lasting for around 2 minutes. My normal signal strengths were between 45 and 60. I was going to get a larger dish installed for 129 but had Dish come out and do a realignment. My signal strengths now, from what I recall, are between 60 and 75 and I get far fewer dropouts and when they do happen, they last only about 10 seconds. Not perfect, but doable.
I asked the installer doing the realignment about the larger dish. He said that its becoming standard practice now to install larger dishes for 129 here in the NW, but that only DishNetwork techs can do it, not subs. Not sure if this is true, but if my 129 reception starts to degrade, I may look into it.

Further North that you, but have been having issues with the 129 since my upgrade to mpeg4 (211) for the National Geographic Channel last June. Nothing but trouble. The original installer put up a separate dish 500 for the 129 and warned me about what I was getting into. A couple of months later and half-a-dozen other techs later a 24" dish with a low-noise lnb was installed which gained about 10 points of signal. Just as you experienced, the drop-outs were fewer and not as lengthy. However, with the recent transponder changes--compression???--and the addition of A&EHD, it is appearing that we're back to square 1. A&Es signal drops from 70 to 30 about every 20-30 minutes. Extremely annoying to say the least and the customer service reps are absolutely clueless. I spoke with one this evening that claimed to be a technical floor supervisor (Sue J7E)...if she was, we're in a lot of trouble :)
A service call is scheduled for Sunday...I half expect the guy to show up and shake rattles at the dish!
Good luck 2 u...
