Programming remote to run Onkyo receiver

We finally got our HD DVR today. I'm trying to get the Directv remote to work our Onkyo audio receiver. It will shut it off but will NOT turn it on! It doesn't make any sense to me that it will do one and not the other. It will control the volume, too. I'm sure (I hope) someone out there will have a simple solution. (I'm using the AV2 spot for the vcr/dvd) TIA!

There is nothing you can do.

I have an Onkyo as well.

The code set that is in the RC series of remotes (be it the RC23/24/32/32RF/34), just doesn't contain a code to turn ON the Onkyo.

This is a REMOTE control issue, not so much an HR20 one.

The 30135 code will turn my Onkyo TX-SR501 both off and on. However, I've read on here that it doesn't work for all Onkyo receivers.

Sorry... guess it would depend on the model Onkyo.
I am on the TX-SR800 only off for me.

There are 2 codes for an onkyo. I have the 804. The first code only turns off. The second code turns on and off. Volume also works.

Don't know if this will shed a little more light on the Onkyo situation or noot, but I too went thru this.. Here's a link that may help...

"Onkyo code 30842 will power off the receiver. code 30135 will power on the receiver and give you access to vol. There is no single onkyo code in the white remotes that does all"

Thanks, I went with this, using the AV2 for the on function, AV1 for off. The vcr/dvd is on it's own remote, and that's fine.
