View Full Version : 5nlb slimline
I have which looks like white cones on my slimline where you hook it up I guess. There is four openings but only three have the white cones and the fourth looks like a open socket just a hole.I hope I have explained this right should this be that way?

I'll assume that those "cones" are where your cables are connected. Those cones are probably weather boots. If you ever need to connect another receiver to your dish you'll need to run another cable to that fourth connection. If you need more than four, you'll need all four in order to expand.
Tell us what receivers you have now!

Those "cones" are LNBs & the "empty" is for the 95 SAT [international channels].
The center LNB is actually three LNBs.

Please post a picture of the AU9 showing "cones". I've never seen LNBs that look like cones, more like small cups.
I also didn't know that the geometry of the slimline would allow for reception from 95.
See the rest of the thread. :)

I'm not aware of any "plug on" LNBs to enable reception of the 95-deg satellite with the SlimLine dish. I'm guessing that any "holes" are purely cosmetic.

Besides the reflector being of an horizontal oval, the LNB mount is an arm extending from the center on both sides. One side has the 110 & 119 LNBs & the other side has a "blank" where you can mount the 95 SAT LNB.
The white covers over the LNBs have a slight taper, so you might call the "cones".

When I got my AU9, I asked: "what goes in here?" Answer was " the LNB for the international [95] SAT."

Are you sure you're not talking about the AT9? Pictures of the AU9 I've seen have a totally integrated LNB assembly. Or are there two versions of AU9?

You're looking at the same thing. One version of the AU9.
The AT9 has the two LNBs bolted on, The AU9 has them [hard] mounted, but the mount extends beyond the center line to the other side, where the "blank" is for the 95 LNB.

Please review the picture of the AU9 as shown on this eBay auction.

Further search found this.

With a closeup of the LNB assembly which does show a spot way over for something.

However 95 isn't mentioned.
I still say those LNBs don't look like "cones". :) Well, maybe truncated ones.

Yep, that's the one.
Background: the 3LNB dish has [duh] three LNBs, and points to the 110 SAT with the other two LNBs offset on each side of the center line.
The AT/AU9 is centered on the 101, with the 110 & 119 LNBs off set to the right [in your picture on ebay]. Still looking at the picture, the "mount" also extends to the left of the center line. This is where the "blank" mount is for the 95 LNB [which is optional, as so doesn't come with the dish].

I was told the same thing by my installer.
For those that would disagree, why is there a hole/socket there? What's your source?

I don't do 5LNBs yet [ taking the class in a month or so after a lot of outside techs get their SBCA rating ] but some of my co workers who do install Ka/Ku systems still carry 95s on their truck and install thwm togwther with the 5LNBs. Unless our HSP is totally out of the loop including our sr trainer I dount the slot is for the 95.

Installers aren't the best source, but somebody did think of putting something there.
Maybe not the 95 SAT, but a LNB for sure. Maybe it will never be used for what ever reason.

The "plug-in" LNB may not be available yet.

Agreed, clearly something is/was intended to be located by that socket.
What I disagree with is the folks who disagree without siting a source for rebuttal:nono2: When I got mine back in october, there where those who didn't believe that I got one, they insisted that they weren't available yet. I had to take photo's to prove I had it!

I would file it under "they mean well".
What gets me is the follow on arguments as opposed to "I think..." because their open to more ideas or input.

Now that I see the working end of the LNB assembly, there is definitely a place for an LNB. I just wonder how much retrofit would be required to put one there?

First you would have to see the LNB to plug in for the "hole". I'm still wondering myself, but don't think I will need the international channels so.....

Exactly. I don't see any holes for screws / bolts etc.

I don't know as I've posted, but "if" the LNB install "kit" ever came out, I'm sure you would get the instructions to read & follow. If you look at the "blank" you might see where you have to knockout the plastic exposing everything that would then answer your questions. Maybe it's just that I've spend too much time with designers & their work, & see the "how & why" of a design. The "blank" was put there for a reason. It would have been cheaper to leave it out.
I have some friends that both have the 5 lnb dish, one being the slimline. N ow both installs looked to me put in right. The older dish AT11(?) seemed to either be tuned better, all the transponder had hotter signal levels. So I went and retuned the slimline got a couple of points better, but still not as hot, anybody else have anything on this?

The two types of 5LNB dishes are: [the older] AT9 & the AU9.
While they need to be aligned well, what are you using to compare yours to "theirs"?
If you aren't using a power meter and are using a receiver, then you would need to use the same unit on each dish to get a reading that you could compare "real" numbers. Each receiver will give a slightly different reading as it really isn't a true power meter, but an "attempt" to show relative power [relative to that unit].
the older dish AT9 and the newer, slimline were both peaked with a birdog. Both customers have h 20s. The older dish was hotter mostly on the 99 and 103.

Do they read the same on the "birdog"? "H-20" not HR-20? If so: both -100 or -600? If not.. they do read different [I have compared both on my AT9].
If HR-20, how much are you seeing?
both are definately H 20s but don't know if they are of different builds as in the 100, 600 variety. Reason I ask is because one has pixelization on local HD channels and the other doesn't. Making me think the slimline isn't getting as strong a signal as the at 9 for the 99 and 103.

both are definately H 20s but don't know if they are of different builds as in the 100, 600 variety.
The -100 has a slightly larger box & made by Thompson, where the -600 is sightly smaller & made by LG.
Since they're made: in different countries, from different manufactures & have different software, they don't give the same readings.
I've got both on the same dish [AT9] and seen this, but haven't changed over to my AU9 dish, so I don't know what they would then read [but do know what I posted].
