Circuit City had a really good deal on a 32" HDtv so I got one to replace my bed room tv. A week ago I had a DVR switch in my bed room, would like to have a tivo so I can take my tv shows with me. Anyone have a Directtv box with a tivo box also?

How does it work if I buy a HD recever from Best Buy or Circuit City and call Directtv?

Not exactly sure what you're asking ....
You can use a standalone Tivo (with features like "Tivo-to-Go" and "Home Media") with a standalone DirecTV Receiver, but your Tivo cannot record HiDef channels. Your Tivo controls channel changes on the DirecTV Receiver to record the shows you want.
Or you can get an HR20 HD DVR from DirecTV (available at Circuit City and Best Buy). This DVR records all of the HiDef and regular channels, but you cannot "take my tv shows with me". Those retailers can also arrange installation.

Yes. All of the current DirecTV Receivers use the same Tivo IR control code. More info here ....
