I'm selling my HR10 on ebay and a potential buyer is asking for the receiver ID number. Is there any reason that I should not tell him?

They need it to make sure it can be activated. As far as I know, there isn't any way to "steal" this info and use it for something else.

Yes, you should provide that information to a qualified buyer/bidder. Some eBay sellers offer equipment that is leased, or has an outstanding account balance, so the buyer cannot activate it after they've purchased it. Buyers need to check the Receiver ID with DirecTV to ensure that they'll be able to activate it properly.
