View Full Version : R10 versus new 5LNB KA/KU dish
I've been having problems on one of my R10 receivers since upgrading D* to HD and having a 5LNB KaKu dish installed. The installers swear the signal is good, but I keep losing signal periodically on only the one R10. Signal "comes back" after a couple minutes. Signal strength shows high 90s.
The installer is saying the R10 is INCOMPATIBLE with the new dish. Huh?
This was supposedly a senior level technician sent by Customer Retention (though I never try to judge based on appearance...).
Has anyone else heard this line?
The R10 is not incompatible with the 5lnb dish. I have 2 R10's with the AT9 dish.
He may have meant that the R10 will not receive the extra 2 satellites, which he would be correct.

I think Ricka ment:
The R10 is most definently compatible with the AT9/ATU 5LNB dishes.
As are all DirecTV receivers.
Every single DirecTV receiver is compatile with the 5LNB dishes.
They might not be able to utilize the dish completely, but the dish is capable of sending them the signal they need.
Thank you. That's an answer I can take to D* Customer Retention and insist they live up to their name.
I've got some rather cranky folks at home that are staring unpolitely at me.

Thanks Earl  I usually mean what i say but, not always say what I mean !
I pulled the R10 upstairs this morning and plugged it into my cables that feed my HR20-700 and it worked flawlessly. Definitely a cabling issue that arrived with the new dish. Another tech is being dispatched for tomorrow. Pity the poor fools that couldn't get it right in good weather. Now they have to deal with a nice Minnesota snow storm! Personally, I'm hoping for over a foot!
Thanks for the encouragement to stick with the gut feel. We don't want to give up the TIVO features just yet ... but I can see an HD upgrade coming on slowly.
