Does anyone out there know if there is a way yet to transfer your recorded programs or movies from my HE20-700S to an external hard drive to watch at a later time?

I purchased a D-Link HD Wireless Media Center and i want to transfer all of my recorded shows and Movies to an external Hard drive so they can be watched in the future without using up all the space on my DVR.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

IF there was a way...you would have to have an eSATA drive first. It would become the only drive for the HR-20. Once you had recording on it...THEN...you could remove it and if you could read the file system [Linux] you could do something like you want. I do not, nor have not, done this. FWIW

Let me elaborate on my answer.

1.) Nobody has cracked the file system so we don't even know where the files are.
2.) Nobody has cracked the encryption
3.) If someone gets by the file system and encryption, then we would have to figure out the file layout.

The R15 has been out over a year, and it hasn't been done yet. Since the HR20 is a relative, we can assume some simularities exist. But since the R15 hasn't been mastered, the HR20 is in no way close.

So, when I say, "Nope". That's exactly what I mean. And it's doubtful we'll ever get the ability to just copy programs off the box into a non DRM'd file.

Well i suppose i can burn the programs to DVD then burn them into a hard drive. Seems redundant though and then i lose my True HD

Option two: take the S-video out of the HR-20 & into your video capture card. It will be SD not HD, but would be a "one step" process.

PS: AlbertZeroK, thanks for your input, as I posted I didn't know...

Connection to an eSata and getting to the filesystem wouldn't be too hard: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=80031

Filesearching - saying this without having done it - shouldn't prove too difficult. The programmers either made it easy on themselves with extents like .mpg or .mpv/mpa etc - or by simply finding the stores of very large files. :)

But DRM / encryption. We're sunk.

Dear D* - please give us multi-room viewing (MRV). I promise you'll make more money than less.

To the OP - I xfer my faves via S-video and video capture. While it's true you lose your HD, you'll get the ability to make anamorphic DVDs - and those look great, even though not in HD. Maybe you can make Video TS folders instead and serve the contents that way???

Not why you bought your wireless media center, I know. But media center serving is still fairly new - keep the faith and good luck to us all!
