2 weeks ago I had the 5LNB dish and a new HR20 installed. When I asked the installer if he would be taking down the 3LNB dish he said he can't because my HR10 wouldnt work on the new dish. His partner confirmed that. At the time I wasnt 100% sure so I didnt say anything (now I know he was wrong or lying). So he installs the 5LNB dish (after telling me its a waste now because there are no new HD satellites up yet. I knew he was wrong about that so I told him to put it up anyway. We connected the HR20 and when setting up the satellite he set it up using the 3LNB. I asked why he did that and he said he's just gonna get an error message on the 99 and 103 anyway cuz they are not up yet. In my mind I was just saying blah blah blah, Ill just set it up the right way when he leaves. So he left (he didnt wait around to activate it cuz he didnt wanna be late for another job) and I set up the 5LNB dish and sats 99 and 103 failed. I also didnt get the MPEG4 channels. So now I was mad. I called Directv explained the whole thing and they set up a service call.

The service call happened on Saturday. The guy was from DirecTech. Im not sure what the original guy was from but it was a different company (private installer). After arguing with the DirecTech guy for a half hour that I should be receiving sats 99 and 103 and calling DirecTV to confirm this he went through various steps. He reset the HR20 numerous times, checked the cables, switched the cables, reset the box some more, and finally came to the conclusion that it was my HR20. So I asked him if he had another HR20 to test out before he left cuz I didnt wanna order a new one and then experience the same thing and set up another call. At this point I was getting VERY aggravated and almost yelling at the poor guy. I was sure it wasnt the receiver.

Then for some reason the guy decided to go up on the roof (finally after I practically begged him to do so when he first got there). He went up and :nono2: . Apparently the 1st numbskull attached the dish to the roof and never attached the cables. He basically just put the dish on the roof and kept both boxes on the 3LNB. I was PISSED! I was lied to and cheated. The tech was pissed too. After some grumbling about it not being his job, he connected the box to the 5LNB and everything worked! I felt bad for the new tech, and despite taking longer than I expected he eventually did find the problem and I tipped him a $20 (thank god I didnt tip the original installer).

So I called DirecTV to complain about the original installer. They offered me 3 free months of Showtime which I gladly accepted. But my main reason to call and make a formal complaint was cuz I was VERY pissed about the installer. Will my complaint do anything? I am still very mad about this and I want something to be done about the original installer.

No comments on this? Has anybody ever heard of an installer just installing a dish and not connecting it? Will Directv actually do anything about my complaint?

I'm not sure about not installing the cables themselves. It sounded like he convinced himself the 5-LNB wasn't going to get you anything new. I don't know. I have heard of some installers forgetting to tighten all of the bolts.

The HR10 will work w/ the new dish.

I don't think your complaint will change anything unfortunetly. There alot of stories like this in this forum. I'm sure there are just as many good ones as bad, but people just don't post the good ones that often.

The best thing to say is at least your working.
Good Luck.

Your complaints fall on deaf ears. The CSRs don't seem to care. It took 6 tries to get my AT9 dish almost complete. D gave me hundreds of dollars in credits, months of free programming and free equipment. Think of the cost for 1 installer compared to my time calling over 12 times, credits, and 6 trips. If the first guy just did his job...... nuf' said.
