View Full Version : Is this the best deal I can get?
I just called today to see what kind of deal I could get. I'm a current customer. I have 200 channel package and 625 DVR receiver with local channels. I have 1 television downstairs and one television upstairs. Here is what I think is a good deal, but let me know if I can do better.
First, we really don't watch movies, so I'm not interested in the movies channels.
I'm looking at the 250 channel package with local and DVR service for 63.97 a month, but I pay for an annual subscription I can get it for 714.65, which comes out to be $59.55 a month.
I guess I want the 250 channel package, but is there anyway to get it cheaper than this? I was told the dvradvantage would require me to sign up for a movie channel which would make it 69.99 a month.
Thanks,
Jeff
Can any help with this?

The prices for what you want are very straight forward.....what are you looking for to reduce the cost? The only thing I saw was to move down to a lower package and subscribe to Netflix for movies, but you said you don't want the movies....
The only thing I can think of would be to lower your technology to an older DVR w/o monthly fees (assuming you are charged a lease or DVR fee on your current model).
I was wondering if anyone has upgrade to the 250 package and found a better way to get there for cheaper. I guess if the prices are straight forward then this is probably the best I can do.
What did you mean lower your technology to an old DVR w/o monthly fees? Are you talking about buying a non-dishnetwork equipment so I don't get charged? Or does Dish sell old equipment and not charge the monthly fee?
Thanks again,
Jeff

JeffYou can buy used DVRs from Ebay or other sources that don't have all the bells and whistles of new DVRs but also don't have the monthly $5.98 fee. The 501, 508 & 721 are older products without a monthly DVR fee.:)
The DishDVR Advantage would save you about $1.40/month over what you are now paying if you have an annual AT200 subscription with "new 1-Feb" pricing. If you have an annual sub with "old pricing", you wouldn't save. I have in the past switched during February and received credit for the prepaid year at the "new" rate, eventhough I paid the rate prior to 1-Feb, but there's no guarantee on that happening.
I do question your 714.65 number though. If you get ATxxx on an annual basis, your locals become $5.99 instead of $5. Add a penny to the monthly price of ATxxx and multiply by 11 for the annual price, then add ($5.99 + $5.98) * 12 and annual AT200 + locals + DVR is (new prices) $616.64 and AT250 is $726.64 or a net of $60.55 / month. There have been posts from people saying they can get the DishDVR Advantage package w/ AT250 and w/o a Premium for $59.99. I don't see that as an available choice, but you might be able to get a CSR to give it to you at that price. You'd save a whole $0.56 / month, but have a longer price guarantee than the 12 months of the annual subscription. Regular DishDVR Advantage at $49.99 is $1.39 cheaper than $616.64 / 12.
The 501/508 don't have a $5.98 DVR fee, but you'd have to have both TVs share their tuner to save much. If you got two of them, the 2nd would have a $5 Additional Receiver fee and you'd only save $0.98. The 721 has two tuners, but just one output so the two TV2 still couldn't watch something different like you can now with a 625. These are very minimal savings given the outlay to get the DVRs that don't have a fee.
