Hello! This is my first post here. I have spent a little time reading through some of the FAQs and searching for my problems. I'm just not finding anything that helps.

1st the TrickPlay features don't work. I can't pause, replay, rewind, etc. live TV. The HR20 is my 5th DVR so I understand how it's supposed to work ;) If I do a complete system reset then the TrickPlay features work for some unknown period of time. There could be some connection, though unverified, to turning the HR20 off. I have a wife a 3 kids so I have little control over this. The TrickPlay seemed to work for a few hours but when coming back to the machine later that evening and having to turn it on from it's off state the TrickPlay features did not work.

2nd I can't watch anything that I record. I have checked a few PPV movies that I recorded prior to the latest software update and they seem to play, but everything after 2/11 doesn't work. It records fine AFAIK -- it's in the list. When I try to play it back I experience one of two things: 1. it just sits on a black screen with the info at the top and the timeline at the bottom, or 2. it immediately asks if I want to keep or delete the recording though it played nothing.

Here are some specifics about my setup:

I have the HR20 attached to my TV via HDMI. I have Dolby Digital turned ON. I have my resolution set to 720p or 1080i depending on which time I've been through this reset process. I have Native mode turned off. I have used the default gray bars as an experiment, but prefer and usually set them to black.

I have called DirecTV twice. Most recently on Monday. I have 0x12a software version. This box was a replacement for a Tivo HR10-250 which I am madly in love with. LOL The transition hasn't been easy, but I live too far from town to rely on OTA HD reception and opted for this "upgrade" to get satellite transmitted HD local channels.

I'm really no fan of the new receiver or it's interface, but that's not really the problem at present. I just want the thing to work. In leiu of that I pray for the day that DirecTV, at fault or not, apologizes to Tivo and pays them stupid sums of money to get the DirecTivo back. Yes, I'm a fanboy.

Any help you can provide is much appreciated!

Some other things of note. Sorry, they came to me after I posted.

I'm using 2 Zinwell 6x8 multi-switches daisy chained for 12 outputs. Stupid? Yes. It's all the Bluegrass Satellite guy had with him to complete the installation. I have 3 RG6 lines run to 5 locations in my house: the 4 bedrooms and the family room. 2 are used for the satellite feed and 1 is for an upstream feed (currently unused from all locations.) Also, I have 2 RG6 lines from from the wiring panel to the entertainment center setup in the basement. The house is new as of 12/23/2006. The cabling was installed by a professional audio visual company: Sound Advice of Cincinnati, Ohio. They wire several homes in the Clermont Home Show and Homerama every year.

The satellite feeds are ~60' and all of the runs to the rooms come into a central 48" wiring panel.

Though the model numbers escape me, I have an orginal DirecTivo, a series 2 DirecTivo, 2 HR15, an HR10-250, and the HR20. All have both tuners connected.

And another thing ...

Every time I reset either with a RBR or a full system reset I lose *all* recordings after 2/11. Does that make sense?!

Another issue ...

Sometimes when I change channels I get a black screen. I open the guide and then the little video preview window starts working. I can exit the guide and then watch the channel.

You seem to have a few "glitches" running through your box.
I would want to "flush" it out.
There are three levels:
1) the RBR
2) pulling the power cord for 10 min.
3) going into the setup menu, then reset, the "reset everything". This will FORMAT the drive [losing everything on it] & clear all of the memory chips. After this, the box will have the same software [as now] and you will be back to the setup guide where you need to input your zip code [again], just as it "came out of the box new". This is kind of drastic, but won't hurt anything other than losing all of your setting, & recordings.
