I have got a 1-5 install set for tomorrow March 1. Can anyone say if they received a confirmation call or do they just show up. I am taking a day off from work for this crap which shows I need help :). My main concern is I am an original March 22 install but used the DirecTV.com reschedule to get an earlier time. I called directv and they said I am in the system for tomorrow and all looks good. Can someone chime in if they call you to confirm ? thanks gentelman

Alas, your mileage will be your mileage not mine. Often I get a call the day before and a call as the installer is driving over...but not always.
Good luck! May it go smoothly.
Btw, on the directv website, you should be able to find your order and that should list the phone number for the installing company.
Cheers,
Tom

It's a crap shoot. I've been called to confirm & also had none & still had the install.
My last was a 1-5, with no call. I called D* 24 hours before & checked it was still setup.
Then I got nervous [I don't "wait" well] as the time went by. At 4 I called D* to check for any updates [one time the installer told D* it was canceled, but not me]. While I was on the phone to D*, the installer had tried to call me [called D* to tell them].
Bottom line: he was running late, said it would be 6:30, came @ 5:20, did the job well, & had still another call to go on.
This may not help you, but it is the way my last call worked. FWIW :)

Do yourself a favor and call to confirm not only that they will show up but what equipment is on your order and even at that there are no guarntees. This one thing I hate about D* is the installation of equipment.

I just got off the phone with DTV to confirm and the rep said I am still in the system for Tom 1-5 with a HD DVR upgrade. Keepin fingers crossed, I figured I will wack a couple of branches off a tree in my line of sight to keep it as clear as possible and kill sometime although I am kind of worried if the dish has to point a little to the east cause I do not have a whole lot there. My current dish is a triple LNB which with signals in the 80-90's on 101 & 119 mounted on an SS pole in my balcony. I can still get a good southwest view from the wall of my balcony so if he cannot use that pole he can always mount it there. I remember someone on the forum mentioning that a single LNB dish with a good signal should work with a 5lnb in the same location and should pull in all the signals I hope this is true.

I always call ahead except for my first AM job since most of the time people are not awake yet when I am onroute at 7.30 AM. Especially on saturdays.

Well today is the day I am waiting for a 1-5 install, no call no nothing I will be very very angry if the dude does not show up. Is it normal for them not to call ? Its only 1:30 but the nail biting starts.

Did you call the installation company?

I called DTV yesterday and twice today. Everytime they say everything looks ok, and the notes show no cancelations or anything like that. The installers are mastec and DTV suggested to give them some more time then call DTV back so they can get in touch with the home office. Does this sound like normal practice.

I recall that on my install date they called to cancel 30 minutes before the window expired. It was an afternoon window expiring at 5:00 pm.
We'll be pulling for you.

always call and check to make sure that you are still in the system for the install. because sometimes things can happen and you wait all day and no one shows up!:)
I called DTV yesterday and twice today. As has been pointed out a couple of times, you can call D* until you're blue it the face. They are subcontracting the installation and are not in constant contact with the installers.
As for not getting a call, this isn't as unusual as it should be.

Installer showed up @ 3 to my surprise he was a real cool dude, Our main issue is my custom faricated pole which my current 3lnb dish sits on has to be modified to accomodate the 5lnb. He is rescheduled for Tom (SATURDAY). My current dish sits in my Second Story screened balcony towards the front an edge of the balcony shooting southwest with a nice line of sight with the exception of some plam tree leaves but I think the signal shoots over them because my 3lnb is peaked at around 95 (101)(119) signal strength. I have to shorten the pole so the 5lnb will be at the correct height, we tried using the custom pole with the 5lnb and he could only get a signal in the 30's I think the overhang is killing it so if we go lower we should be good. Also the installer said the screen might be hurting the signal but if the 3lnb handles it fine why would the 5lnb have trouble. I dont believe the screen is metal its the cheap stuff. Can anyone chime in on the screen. Thanks for any feedback.
Screen might effect the 99 and 103 signals more than the others. Don't really know.

If the screen captures and holds rain water, that will be a huge problem. Otherwise non-metal screen would just be like a clothe snow cover we'd use up in the nort.
Can't extend the dish out of the porch? This is one of those fine print points of the FCC rules I never recall very well.
Challenges and cheers,
Tom

Actually the screen does not hold water and my current 3lnb setup has been standing strong for almost 7 years. Believe it or not I am in South Florida with torential rain storms in the summer and during a storm 90+ percent of the time I am still watching TV go figure. thanks for the feeback.

I had noticed your locale and am familiar with the 3pm afternoon downpours. (grandparents lived there.) So, I suspect that if the 3lnb survives those rains the 5lnb will do fine also. :)

Yesterday's reschedule went great, I got a different installer who was confident to get me up and running. He was very sure that my custom pole mount was giving me problems because of my balcony overhang. After scoping out the area he finally figured he would try to mount the dish on the floor closest to the edge of the balcony and low and behold SUCCESS!!! the freaking signal strengths are incredible!! I am at near 100% on all sats. If anyone has a good line of site and is in a condo in addition to a screen no worries I am proof it works the screen is no affect at all. I guess like a lot of you say its all in the installer if they are confident in their abilites and are not lazy punks. :)
