Well after months of reviewing this site and reading all of the posts and comments about the pro/cons of the HR20, I decided to go for it and have the darn thing installed.

I didn't have to pay a for the HD DVR nor the HD Receiver (shipping doesnt count). I called DirecTV right after it was annouced at CES that Dish was going to have a promotion going on in February for no money down and complete free installation. When I spoke to the CSR she transferred me over to retention and they processed my order for the HD receiver. I waited a few more days and called back to complain it was supposed to be an HD DVR. The CSR tried to wiggle their butts out of that sorta deal but I was persistent and they gave me the HD DVR at no cost and "removed" the HD Receiver. I waited for about a month and the install was done yesterday.

In the order was a new 5 LNB dish, 6x8 switch, HR20 AND an HD Receiver. What the hell?!! I wasn't about to complain about their mistake.

The installation was smooth as chilled Patron Gold (if you haven't tried it I highly recommend it). Even in the pouring rain the guy from Iron Communications was great and very friendly (my 7 mos old was facinated by him). I did my friendly deed and offered a towel/drink after being outside in the pouring rain at 5pm. There was no need to run cabling as my house was recently remodeled and I had 8 lines running into the family room and many more thoughout the house.

HR20 - Well my first thoughts are... I miss the Now Playing! It'll take some getting used to the interface but I think I can live with it. The wifey dislikes the remote... she's in love with the peanut. I swear if it could vibrate she would use it elsewhere. lol Upon bootup the receiver upgraded to v134 and I said to myself hey that's a new sw version. So far so good... no problems reported but I haven't truly tested it out. I'm going to pack it with approximately 25 season passes tonight and see how well it truly handles the same workload my R10 handles like a charm day in and day out. Wish me luck... but I'm usually on the lucky side of technology when it comes to soso products. Case in point, I still have my Sirius S50 and I've never had any problems with it.

HD Receiver - What can be said... its a receiver without DVR functionality. Nough said! It's working... can't complain.

Too all the moderators and guys posting prior to my punk ass joining, keep up the great work! It's people like you that make it easier for others to deal with such a POS while DTV works out their sw issues.

Great to hear good stories.

Good to see you had a good and friendly installer. It is always difficult to judge a company with one contact, but I for sure will not recommend Connect TV to anyone.

I'm in Cupertino and also had a nice, knowledgable guy from Ironwood do an install of 2 HR20's yesterday. Wonder if it was the same guy? His name was Mike. Thin with gray hair. He was at my house till about 2:30.

Seems like there are 2 major HSB's in the Bay Area. Do we have any say on which company does our installs (I have mine scheduled for 3/6)? It's currently through ConnecTV, but most of the posts I've seen that mention them are not so complimentary.

I have had 2 good interactions with Ironwood communications. The first was my install which was somewhat complicated but the installer didn't even ask for any extra cash even though IMO it went above and beyond a standard install.

The second was a service call when it turned out the 110/119 LNB on my dish stopped working. The installer figured it out very quickly and had it replaced in less than an hour. I was very pleased to get my HD package back.

The guy I had to install was named Rick. He had the same physical description as your guy.

As far as the performance of the HR20, no problems to report.

I had a great install here yesterday it was the second time I had this guy out as I requested him. I gave him a 50.00 tip for all his efforts.

Do either of you have a (direct ?) contact number for your installer? Just curious given your favorable reviews. I figured it might be worth trying this route vs. just calling Ironwood and rolling the dice. There seems to be mixed reviews for pretty much all available installer options and I'd like to minimize my risk/uncertainty.
