View Full Version : Fox MLB Saturday games and Extra Innings
It sure would be nice if Extra Innings carried the out of market Fox MLB games on Saturdays. The NHL Center Ice package provides the out of market NBC NHL games as part of the package...why not the same for baseball?
Probably some stupid contract issue..

That's exactly what it is. FOX wants the right to show you the game they want and not have you pick it. D* could build it into the contract not to have this happen but for some reason they don't and I don't know why because they do it with the NFL and ST.
I have this bizarre, unrealistic hope that when this MLB/D* exclusive contract is announced, it will reverse this issue.
Me too.. I'd like to be able to see any of the Fox MLB games via EI (just like for Center Ice). Since I live near Phily, I often get stuck with the Phillies, Orioles, Nationals, or Pirates Saturday games on Fox.. I'd rather see the Yankees, if Fox is carrying the game.

The only way you are going to get Yankees on Fox on saturdays is to get
Channel 5 out of NY. Fortunately, I get both Channel 5 and 29 OTA, and my
cable company provides both NY and Phila locals. However, I watch the Phillies,
not the Yankees. The Fox TV contract does not allow the games on MLB EI.

Right, but again, maybe there's a chance this MLB contract could change that. I actually don't fully understand why FOX wouldn't do it, other than an advertising issue in the local markets.

Same here.. I know the current MLB contract with Fox doesn't allow this, but it would be really nice if it did.. then you could pick any of the Fox Saturday games via EI (like how the NBC/CI package works).

My guess is that the new Directv/MLB EI deal will not touch this because FOX is
not part of this deal. FOX would have to be brought in as a third party and
MLB would have to give FOX something to allow the other games to go
on MLB/EI
