I have a HR20 on order as of two days ago. The D* rep said that March 29, 2007 is the earliest appt. I can get for install. I have a few questions getting ready for the install.

1. Is it correct that the Slimline 5lnb dish requires 4 feeds to the inside of the house and that D* will install a Zinwell 6x8 switch regardless of the number of tuners that you have? (I will have two DVR's wired after the install but I might add a tuner in the future for a kids bedroom) and How can I make sure that the installer leaves or installs a Zinwell at my location?

2. I currently have two direct runs from my dish to my TV located ~75 ft (cable distance) from the dish. D* says they will only install 125' of RG6 with one wall penetration. Should I get some cable now and do my homerun installs to the current location of my dish?

3. How do they normally relocate the main receiver if they don't do wall fishing? Do they just drop it on the floor or staple it to the wall?

4. Is there a problem with mounting the slimline on a brick chimney? It can be attached to the flat portion just like a wall. I wouldn't expect the dish to hit a flat wall but I guess it depends on how close you are to the equator.

5. Can anyone tell me how 8 tuners can share 4 lnbs? I understand that the receiver sends out different voltages to receive either odd or even transponders and that a tuner will tune in on a specific transponder and channel. Can a second or third tuner see all of the transponders and channels after the first tuner has set the voltage to select either even or odd? (i.e. Does the switch look at the outgoing signal from the tuner and set the input to a vacant lnb if one is vacant. If all lnbs are being used, does it piggy back a tuner looking for odds onto one that is already tuned to the odd transponders so that it can decode the channel it is tuning too?)

Thanks for your input,

1. The sat will have 4 lines coming off it. Yes, the installer will likely use a zinwell 6x8. If you currently have more receivers than that can handle, the installer will probably use a splitter to add a second 6x8.

If you don't have the receivers now, not too sure if he'll do that or not. Probably depends on the installer.

2. I have NEVER seen anyone enforce this rule. Unless we're talking massive distances here, my opinion is don't even worry about it.

3. Assuming you meant "how do they place the wiring if they don't fish it through the wall?" You tell the installer to run it along the bottom base of the wall if you want. IMO, you're much better off fishing the lines in the wall and paying the money to do so (if that's possible for you).

4. That I have no idea about, sorry.

5. umm...

About your installation date. If you can access your account on directv.com you should be able to view orders then reschedule the appointment for an earlier date. The D* reps are giving due dates 30+ days out, but in many cases the local installers have earlier available appointments. It's worth a shot. If you don't have access to your account online you may want to call D* and find out who the local installer is and call them to try for an earlier appointment. Good luck with the install!! I'm hoping to have my HR20 and 5lnb dish installed this afternoon.

I have tried to reschedule my install daily since jan 31st. My appointment is march 6. I pretty much always get to the calender pick a new date and the system always comes back with an error. very frustrating. :(

they can mount it on your brick chimney if the install has the right fasteners with him. i have done it and i have seen it done numerous times in my subdivision
