View Full Version : Old Receiver?

I just had my HR20 installed a couple days ago, which is going to replace the HD Tivo receiver I was using.

I THOUGHT that DTV said I would have to switch out (return) the Tivo receiver when I first ordered the HR20 (months ago).

But the installer seems to have left it; he even left a note saying he was interesting in buying it from me.

How can I determine whether the receiver will have to be returned to DTV? Will they bill me for it in the future?

Thanks!

If you purchased it more than a year ago, its yours. If after March last year, highly likely its leased and would need to be returned.

If you call D*, they will let you know. Normally for leased units, they send a recovery kit.

If its yours, don't sell low...check ebay for the going rate.

Tom

keep it and sell it. if it is an hr10 it will bring big bucks. directv does not care about the unit, if they did he would have taken it with him. everytime i have a new reciever come i keep my old one. i have even asked directv if i could keep them and the answer was yes. so i dont even ask anymore i just keep them.

They won't let you keep leased units--unless you want to pay the monthly fee for them...

After the guy who installed my HR20 earlier this week left the HR10-250, I decided to call D* and ask if they wanted it back. The CSR tried to enter an order for a recovery kit, but said the system wouldn't let her. Therefore, she said I could keep it. I asked her to note that on my account.

Older than 1 year? Then you own them.

My dad had a D10 that I gave him and I owned it. They wanted it back when he took it offline cuz they messed up and made it leased when they turned it up for him last fall. DIRECTV made him call me call them to straighten it out.

How long would it be before I would see the 'recovery kit' they send out?

I'm pretty sure it's been a year ago this past November. I called retention at the time and got a good deal on the receiver... But I think it was before last March.

i would not call and request it though. if they want the unit the will contact you. just hold on to it for awhile and see what happens. i have never returned one.

And watch your bill. Might show up there first, even tho they forgot to send the recovery kit.

ya, just hold onto it for awhile and see what happens. if you get a charge on your bill for it then call and request a recovery kit. i have never had to send one back though.
