View Full Version : Dish on-screen HD schedule -- why so often wrong?

It's happened to me more than a few times that what the Dish onscreen program schedule says is on -- and what's really on -- aren't the same. This is particularly annoying when I've programmed a movie to be recorded, but what got recorded is something else. I think it was last night, for example, that I selected the Monster HD channel to watch what my onscreen program guide said would be original 1930s verson of Frankenstein, only to find myself watching something else (it looked like American Werewolf in London or a sequel). I've noticed that listings for Monster HD, in particular, are often wrong -- though I might have noticed that just because it's a channel I frequently watch. I think my VIP 622 is set to update the program guide every night around 3 or so. Is anybody else finding that the guide is often unreliable? Is the information for some channels more accurate than for others?

That's very strange considering my guide definitely said "An American Werewolf in London" because I wouldn't have known it was on when I watched it without it being in the guide.
I cant say I've hardly ever noticed it to be wrong at the time I was sitting down watching something live but I have noticed a couple times where if I happen to tune to a movie on like Uni or FilmFest and it's halfway through, if I scroll forward in the guide a few days to find another showing and set it to record that one... when I eventually pull it up to watch it on the DVR it's not the right movie.
I notice this problem occasionally on my 921. Fortunately for me, the 921 doesn't have NBR, so it doesn't get flustered with the bogus guide data.

I think this is a problem with the Voom channels, I had noticed the Voom Family channel was off and I emailed the Voom people. Dish can only update the guide with the info they are given. One of my locals lists Ebert & Roeper every Saturday night after the local news (10:30pm) but every week they have an episode of 24 on. I have emailed them and the problem still happens.

Not sure, but I think Werewolf may have also been listed in my guide that night -- but not at the time I found it showing on my TV instead of Frankenstein (if I could still remember what time that was, we could compare notes and figure out if it was just my info that was wrong, but I ended up watching something else... )

I have seen the guide be wrong on Voom channels before. Happened a LOT more when Dish first added them than it does now though. Ultimately Dish is obtaining this guide info from another source, though, and I'm not sure they can do much about it except echo complaints if it happens alot.

It was late night viewing. I was trying to get my lady a little frightened if you know what I mean. ;)
