I have not looked here for about a month and am wondering about the bug situation on the HR20. Is the situation 1, Much improved, 2. Improved, 3. The same, 4. Worse, 5.Much worse.

Thanks, Shorty

1-Much improved.

The latest national release 0x134 seems to be the most stable to date.

You still may come accross some hiccups, but now is the best time up to this point to grab one.

Come on and join the fun.

My experience might be helpful: I have been waiting since the HR-10 (that's the HD TiVo, right? I mean to refer to that) came out to get an HD DVR for D*. I almost bought the TiVo right when I heard everything was moving to MPEG4, so I didn't. So I've been closely following this forum for a while (longer than my join date). I was really scared off by the HR20 posts here and frankly decided to stick with my SD TiVo until the unit got better. Well...

I lost patience and really wanted HDTV....so I just went ahead and ordered HDTV and the HR20, figuring if it sucked, I could stick with my SD TiVo.....

and...

my entire experience with the HR20 has been great. There are some things I like about it more than TiVo, there are some things I like about it less. But...if what you want is an HD DVR, it does serve its purpose.

As you can see from my signature, I really haven't had any problems and I'm using virtually every feature. (OTA, networking, eSATA, HDMI, Component, etc.)

Remember that people with problems are more motivated to post to the message boards.....so it likely isn't as bad as some of the "problem" posts here. (And it probably isn't as good as some of the fanboy posts either.)

So, my personal advice would be to take the plunge, get it. Be prepared to be one of those users who has a negative experience--it could happen (as is obvious by reading here), but my bet would be that, so long as your wiring is clean, you'll have a good experience.

It *isn't* TiVo, but you'll like it--my bet.

Agreed. Much improved. I would recommend the HR20 now.

I just got it yesterday and I really like it. My OTA sucks though and it could be I have a splitter on it to run a line to my TV so I will take that off and see if it makes a difference. But other than that I really like it.

You need to make sure to not expect a great box because it is not.

The box is OK but depending on the usage there are some issues that can spoil your pleasure.

For example, for me, a limit of 50 link series (equivalence of Season Pass) is a big problem. I do not know if D* thought that each member of a family will use a box, but only 50 SL for a family of 4 is nothing. Other big problem is that there is a big problem with the manual recording and some channels (NB League pass, NHL and I imagine soon with MLB EI).

I tried twice only the functionality, but both of the time it recorded a black screen, I did check the channel and in fact it was showing the game, the box for some reason do not record them. So if you are a sport fan and want to buy one the sport packages, be aware that you might not be able to record anything.

Hope this will help.

I don't have 50 Series links but I think it's a great box.

You can expect a great box because it is.
