I called D* on Friday 3/2 to order, hoping I would have a working setup in time to catch Discovery's upcoming Planet Earth.

They tell me they can be out to install on Monday 3/5 - which I had a very hard time believing being that I couldn't get one from Circuit City or BB for at least a couple of weeks.

Tech arrived on the early side of the call time (9am) which was great, managed to *not* hack off or screw up my other incoming cable (for internet service from Charter 3mb/s! YAY!) and everything is working smoothly so far - save for one weird lockup on the box when I went to a show I'd put on a playlist.

But the install itself seems fantastic - even have all the locals working! (though they were not working when the tech left the house - that took another call to D* where they sorted it out immediately).

You're lucky. I live in San Pedro, called yesterday and my install date is April 5th.

Do you know the name of the installation company so I can request them when I call to upgrade to HD?

I'm in La Crescenta and went through installation hell last October upgrading to the HR20. Problem was that I got a good SD signal but no HD signal at all. Only the fact that I had paid for Sunday Ticket kept me from cancelling. Was told I had to put the dish on a 20-ft pole (and get somebody to do it myself) or cut my neighbor's trees (est. was $600 to $1K). Finally, 5 visits and 7 techs later, a guy tried a new dish and it worked.

The only other name on our installation receipt is DirectSat USA - I'm assuming their the ones who did the install.

Apparently, per my wife, there was one downside... the installer hadn't bathed in a while, but what's a little stink when compared with the great picture? :hurah:
