View Full Version : Are transponders 4 & 28 CONUS now?

I noticed something strange when checking signal strength today. Transponder 4 is usually in the 50's and 28 is usually in the 40's. As of about noon 4 was at 98 and 28 was at 92. Given my zip code (74133) I'm assuming that 4 & 28 carry St. Louis and/or Kansas City locals.

Has anyone else noticed this today? I'm kinda wondering if they just widened the spot or made it CONUS. Since HGC-HD is on transponder 8 maybe this will mean more HD, we can hope anyways.

In Austin TX 4 = 0 and 28 = 94, don't know what they were before.

Must be a "west coast thing".
4 has been in the 90s & 28 was 42% several weeks ago.

I see only two possibilities. DirecTV either moved spot-beam transmissions from DirecTV 4S to DirecTV 9S, or DirecTV moved DirecTV 4S ever so slightly.

St. Louis was on transponder 20 while Kansas City was on transponder 28.

The most likely culprit for showing transponder 4 in the KC area is the transponder that holds the Memphis and Columbus/Tupelo local channels.

According to Directv:

Transponder Range -

1- 32
Signal strength may be 0 on transponders 4, 12, 18, 20, 26, 28. This is normal.

Not all of mine are 0 on those xponders, but they say it doesn't matter. For satellite 101 anyways.

Dunno about 103, Tulsa doesnt have hd locals yet :(

Does anyone know what transponder the Kansas City Local HD is on? I know it's on 99, but haven't seen the transponder.

Check your signal strength. It should be the strongest one, hopefully 90+.

Sorry, I'm not in KC, so I don't think my readings would show that info.
