I've been a loyal customer of DTV for almost 6 years now and I placed an order to get the HR20-700 installed on Jan 16. At the time, they were completely backordered and said the earliest weekend they can come out is February 17th. I thought it was kind of far but agreed to pay the $299 anyways.

Before the 17th came, i called because of great forums like this one and managed to get $99 off of my device. I was way excited! Well.. the 17th came and went and nobody ever showed up. We rescheduled for the following Monday, still nothing. Rescheduled again for Saturday the 24th and yet again, nothing.

Now they're telling me the earliest they can install is April 10th!!!! Is this device even worth it?

Yes, it is absolutely worth it!! That is very unusual for them to miss so many appointments. I would definitely call DTV and explain your situation. I would assume they have a record of each and every missed appointment. You may be able to know get the HR20 700 for free given everything you have gone through. Keep persistent as good things come to those who wait.

Good Luck.

Buy one at a local store and call DIRECTV to set up a new dish installation.

well that sounds familiar. But I have had mine installed. The installer showed up 5 hours late (5:15 with a 8-12 window). Then they "relocated" my D* tivo and used a slpitter of some sort instead of running another wire. Well now I can't get the second tuner to get a signal.

Now the fun begins. I have had three no shows from Diectech NE. I have called D* each time to complain and they have at least given me a $100 credit for each no show. Now D* owes me $239 dollars. I am getting ready to use that to "pay" my early cancelation fee and make a switch to FiOS. Sorry about that since I have been a loyal D* customer for 7 years with the sunday ticket for all of them.

I ordered in January and was given a May date. Yes ... May!

I finally was able to have it rescheduled to two weeks ago, but that appointment had to be rescheduled because the installer needed power passing splitters. The make-up appointment had to be rescheduled because of a snow and ice storm.

My next installation is tomorrow, and guess what? We're supposed to get up to an inch of snow. That's nothing to me, but I'm sure it's enough for the installer to call ... and reschedule.

I've called numerous times and basically, they tell me that they simply don't have the device to install. DTV is not sending them out (or can't make them fast enough). First time i called, i got an additional $100 off and 2nd time i called, i got 4 free months of Showtime.. which is all great and dandy but I called because I have a new 42" LCD that is not being used to it's potential.

I have been very pleased with DTV but this might be the straw that broke the camel's back. I can see myself now calling on April 11th complaining again.. here's crossing my fingers

The device is OK.

There is for sure great potential and future in it, but at this time I would say you will have more frustration than pleasure using it. (of course all depends on your level and habits of usage of the device)

Hope this helps.

Also Remember Tax season New Hd Televisions are being sold really quickly and with that a lot of installs for the techs so if you have a far away install date someone beat you to the earlier dates

Not really;

They have a lot of the so called, HD ready, TV's out there that they want to get rid of, since they do not have HD ATSC OTA tuners.

No more TV's 13 inch and over can now be made for US sale without ATSC OTA tuners.
