TiVo DVR cannot display live TV

I apologize in advance. I’ve searched, and did not find this. If it is a common problem, my bad.

I have a Series 2 hooked to a DirecTV D11 receiver. The channel changing is via IR. I have taped the 2 transmitters to where they are almost directly on the D11’s sensor.

In spite of all this, on many occasions, a program that should have recorded results in only the DirecTV screen saver.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance, Steve

My guess is that the IR blaster is too close. If the D11 had "seen" anything it recognized from the S2, it would have at least come out of the screen saver mode. You should also confirm that the remote ID code hasn't been corrupted in the S2.

I haven't used a SA Tivo with an IR blaster in many years but I seem to recall that you can program a pause between IR commands. Sometimes the commands are sent too quickly for the device at the other end to respond, resulting in an incomplete channel change command being interpreted by the receiver. Add a slight pause between each number in a channel change command and see if that helps.
