Can someone clarify for me the black out rules for EI? Do all of the home games for the team in my area get blacked out? Are they available on a different channel with the away team? ie. Mets in NY. Blacked out in my DMA, but are they available while playing the Braves in Atlanta?

According to Directv:

MLB Extra Innings shows out-of-market games only.

Games are not in MLB Extra Innings if:
-Broadcast on your local stations or local RSNs(Regional Sports Network).
-Broadcast nationally.

ESPN / FOX Games in 2007:
-MLB games that start after 5 PM ET on Sundays are only available on ESPN, ESPN2 and local Regional Sports Networks, not in MLB Extra Innings.
-MLB games that start before 7 PM ET on Saturdays, beginning May 19, are only on FOX stations, not in MLB Extra Innings. (Exceptions: Sep 1 and 8.)

Hope that helps a little

Thanks :) It sounds like to me you aren't really totally blacked out from that many games because what you can't see on MLB EI could be seen somewhere else. Is this correct?

2 things:
On the 1st 1, I don't remember Sunday night games being anywhere but ESPN...can't imagine that's changing in 2007

On the 1st, I think that's old, as I remember when they signed the new FOX contract last year, they said Saturday baseball would (a) no longer wait until May and (b) no longer skip the 2 September dates.

It is. The only bad thing is that if you live in one team's DMA (I live in KC) and want to watch the Yankees when the play the Royals. If the Royals are not showing the game locally, I don't get to see the game.

EI usually broadcasts the home team's feed (but there are exceptions, for example I don't think they carry Toronto's home station, so all of their games would be the away team's broadcast). That being said, you won't be able to catch your DMA's home team's games on EI if it's the road teams broadcast. You'll need to watch them on your local RSN. Hope this didn't just confuse you.

Sunday night games are sometimes on ESPN2, but mostly on ESPN - however, the part about the RSNs is thrown in there for cases of something like a doubleheader on the west coast that might start at noon for example (3pm eastern). If the second game starts after 2pm PT (5pm ET), it cannot be shown on EI but would likely still be available on the team's regular RSN.

As for the OP's question, I'm not sure what you're asking. The Mets would be blacked out on EI, yes...but you'd get all their games on SNY anyway. Same goes for the Yankees (blacked out on EI, but you get all their games on YES). Blackout rules apply to ALL games, not just home games.

Alot of the time, yes. There are other things that they do blackouts for, but that is the biggest reason I have seen.

The FOX part is old as they begin televising games the first week of the season not in May anymore and they will not televise any games before 3pm. So we will have to wait to see how this shakes out later today after the annoucement as far as any new info regarding blackouts. All this maybe out the window. Lets all hope at least.

Please help me understand... I am a SF Giants fan living in Seattle. I have EI and the sports pkg, but almost every Giants away game is only available from the broadcasting crew where they are playing. In other words, If they are playing in Milwaukee, I have to hear the Brewers play by play guys. Why would Fox Sports Bay Area broadcast be blacked out up here in Seattle 700 mile away? If any of you have ever had the pleasure of hearing Mike Krukow & Dwayne Kuiper broadcast a game you will understand why I want to hear them every day.

Thats just how EI has always been set up. Unless the Giants are at home you will always get the away announcers. Only if you lived in the Giants territory would you hear all Giants all the time.

I believe it is that the home team's video is the one provided on EI not both. Even if both FSNBA and FSN are broadcasting if FSN is the home teams broadcast that will be on EI and not the FSNBA. The FSNBA would only be available in the Bay Area. I do want to say I think it is that way and am not 100% sure.

>>If you are out of your favorite teams Region, you will either be watching games from your Region or the Yankees/Mets:lol:, not yours. This blacks out quite a few games on Saturday, IMO. These games are usually blacked out on MLB.TV too.
The best case by far is to 'move' to your 'preferred team(s) local zip':p . Note that may not get you D* EI -HD- games as these are spotbeamed, at least for this year. Screw MLB/Tribune Co... :eek2: .. I paid for EI for many years (4) and MLB.TV 2-3years and 'moved' with C-Band digital too in the day (02-04). :)

My region is Ohio and Pa. (You can just image how much fun that is during baseball season :grrr:) I want to watch the Yankees. Would EI help me do that?

I live in western PA and am a big Yankee fan. I've subscribed to EI since its inception. Over the last few years EI has carried roughly 100 Yankee games each season. For me that makes EI a pretty good deal.

EI is sounding better and better :) Now if we could just get the price
