What I read said it was going to be a conference call of all things  And that the press could call in their questions. Can you put a conference call on TV

No, I'm betting the announcement will not be carried live on tv or streamed on the web,
but we already know what they are going to say -- screw the American public --MLB is
going to exclude the majority of baseball fans from equal access to America's pastime.

That's the exact first thought that came to my mind:(

Oh well, too late for these talks now. :(

I just hope it will not mean a hike in the prices. I am worried of having a treatment same like what they do to the NFL fans.

The majority of people is only about 5,000 according to Selig. It's called a free market, and if you want to watch MLB EI, switch to DTV.

Why, can't those people switch providers?

I agree, if these packages shifted to DISH, I would move over, what's the big deal? In January my company switched healthplan companies, and some had to change doctors - its not always pretty, but it is part of life. and doctors are way more important than TV.

Not if your building does not allow Satellite dishes on the roof. Those are screwed now.

How about the cable subscribers?

No, only 5,000 people in the country can't receive DTV. I'm sure it's more than that, but this is simply crying over spilled milk. If other providers wanted exclusive rights to EI, they should have OUTBID DTV. It's that simple. Since when are cable providers concerned with consumers having choices? Please.

I do not care about the cable companies, I care about the subscribers who cannot have a Dish (I used to be one of them before moving to my house) and will no more be able to enjoy MLB EI.

I don't understand this... it's just out of market games that are affected. If you get local games, you'll still get local games. The public isn't getting screwed anymore than NFL Sunday Ticket screws the public. If that's okay, why isn't MLB EI?

And the majority of baseball fans can't decide to subscribe to DirecTV? I find that hard to believe. the majority of people in the US can subscribe to DirecTV if they want to.

JockoBronco
03-08-07, 03:28 PM
"Baseball commissioner Bud Selig has downplayed the controversy over the proposed move, calling it "ridiculous," and claiming that only a small number of consumers who previously received the Extra Innings package through cable will be unable to get a DirecTV satellite signal. Chase Carey, DirecTV's president and chief executive officer, put that number at about 5,000 users in a statement in the Los Angeles Times. Others estimate the number at far greater than that."

You are in Bay area as well. You must know that there are strict rules in urban areas in here. in San Francisco most of buildings do not allow installation of a dish on the roof.

Is moving an option? If not mlb.com offers almost all out of market games for $89.95.

Anyway, all I am saying is that this is not fair to a lot of people.

On the personal side, I hope that they will not raise the prices now that there is no competition for them.

All I am saying is that people have choices. If you want EI on DTV give them a buzz and they'll gladly accept you as a sub. If you can't get DTV try mlb.com for the aforementioned deal.

And if you're a current DTV sub and it gets too expensive, CANCEL.

Everyone has CHOICES. If we didn't, that wouldn't be fair.

No you are wrong.

The CHOICE is going to be removed now. You will not have the CHOICE to watch your sport on your TV if you subscribe to any other company than DTV and cannot switch to DTV.

You cannot expect everyone to go online and watch baseball games on the internet! Specially that not everyone has high speed internet, and even there are levels in high speed internet and not with all of them you can watch comfortably a 4 hours long game on your small computer monitor.

The CHOICE and fairness that you mention is now gone for all of them.

Additionally, in keeping with MLB's desire to provide as much MLB programming to as many baseball fans as possible, MLB and DIRECTV have agreed to include a provision that allows MLB EXTRA INNINGS to be offered to other incumbents - In Demand and DISH Network - at consistent rates and carriage requirements with a deal to be concluded before the baseball season begins. The provision also requires the incumbents to agree to carriage rights to the MLB Channel proportionally equivalent to DIRECTV's commitment. Should the incumbents decide not to match DIRECTV's commitment, the MLB EXTRA INNINGS package will be exclusive to DIRECTV. All out of market games continue to be available on MLB.com.

No building, rental or otherwise can stop a person from instaling a dish on
the property ... it is the law per FCC....they can be sued....

Not all the buildings (at least in my area) have balconies. The only possibility for most of them is the roof, and per FCC rules the installation of the dish can be ONLY on the property not the common areas.

This is good news:

"DIRECTV will offer more games in HD and apply its award-winning technology to MLB EXTRA INNINGS broadcasts on an unprecedented scale, taking fans deeper inside the game than ever before."

Then call your cable company and tell them to ante up. They can still get into the package, the opportunity is there if they want to pay and commit like Directv did.

I hope this doesn't mean replaying Yankee games on 95, but showing other teams as well....particularly the Mets.:)
