I can't imaging that would be a channel to go after exclusive rights for.

You mean E* ACTUALLY re-upped for a channel before it was allowed to go dark for a few days??!! :D
I read that the Hallmark Channel was trying to get deals done with all their carriers which, of course, does include D :) The Hallmark Channel IMO is strange. It can be very good or very bad

Really don't think you have too much to worry about.;) All you have to do is look at all the national channels that DirecTV has and DISH doesn't.That's why I came over to DirecTV from DISH.Got tired of waking up finding channels missing.

Well E* signs contracts and so does D*.I would think if it was an exclusive contract they would say so in the news. Now at this time E* has the Hallmark Movie Channel and D* does not. Both E* and D* have the Hallmark Channel. Some channels are the same on both providers and some are not that's what makes each provider unique.;)

Are you a Hallmark executive. You talk like you know all there is to know about their business dealings. I personally think that if the dollars were right, anyone would be exclusive!

No I'm not with Hallmark, but people that are with Hallmark have said they want all the coverage they can get :) My laughing was meant as I don't think the Hallmark Channel would be one that people would change who they had their TV service with if Hallmark was an exclusive channel :nono2:
If you would like to request the Hallmark Movie Channel you can go to www.hallmarkmoviechannel.com and request it.;)

As did I. Folks can make fun of something like Hallmark if they want. Personally, with 4 young kids, I look forward to having channels that are family-friendly. Ironically, having kids is one of the reasons we went back to cable/satellite. It used to be that cable was the home of the stuff that you didn't want your kids to watch (with a couple exceptions), and that the broadcast networks were family-friendly. While there are still many cable offerings that still provide plenty of raunch for all those that desire it - and you don't have to go with the porno channels to get some of that... just flip on Comedy Central... there are alot of real family-friendly options on these cable/satellite channels (e.g. Disney, Nick, Discovery Kids, Hallmark), and even some that are "family friendly" - e.g. ABC Family (not sure where the "Family" aspect comes in on that channel, but my kids aren't allowed free reign on that channel by a long shot). And forget about the broadcast networks. Between the objectionable language, and the "let's see how many sexual innuendoes we can put into 22 minutes" mentality, that's pretty much off-limits to my kids (again, with a few exceptions). Yeah, much of what's on the Hallmark channel is cheesy... but at least I don't worry about my kids watching it - and they do run some decent movies from time to time. I would look forward to having a Hallmark Movie Channel - I mean there's gotta be at least ONE Wilford Brimley movie I haven't seen yet (is it just me, or does he make an appearance in just about EVERY Hallmark movie made...).

You're very naive if you think Hallmark is "family friendly". Look at all the shows carried on Hallmark that carry a TV-PG rating with a subrating of "V" for violence; "D" for dialogue http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/us_framework.jsp?BODY=us_ourShows.jsp. If Hallmark is so "family friendly" why for 3 hours out of any given day, you can find Walker Texas Ranger airing on Hallmark?
IIRC, the movie Doc Hollywood, when it was in the theaters, had alot of language and even nudity (IIRC), I would hate to see how badly the movie has been ruined in the editing room in order for it to air on a "family friendly" network.

What are you comparing the channel to? While not every show on Hallmark is suitable for every member of my family, by and large most of what Hallmark produces IS suitable. And, given the crap that's on broadcast TV today, something like "Walker, Texas Ranger" is quaint by comparison. I've only seen one or two episodes of the show, but by and large, my kids get more exposure to high intense violence by watching commercials on broadcast TV than they ever would watching Chuck Norris kick the crap out of someone on that show.
As for a movie like "Doc Hollywood", beyond just being an uwatchable piece of film (just a stinker of a movie, in my opinion), how can, on the one hand, you tell me that Hallmark isn't innocent with regard to things like violence and dialogue, and then turn around and tell me that it's bad that Hallmark slices and dices the movie to match their audience? So I should be upset that they have some mild violence and dialogue, but also be upset that they don't show a movie like "Doc Hollywood" unedited?
I'm not saying that EVERYTHING on that channel is suitable for my kids - heck, I'm hard pressed to think of any channel where that's true. But they at least make programming that is. One example - my wife is a big fan of a series of books by Jenette Oke (I think that's how you spell her name). The first was one called "Love Comes Softly" - it's a Little-House-On-The-Prarie type of story line. Hallmark has, over the last few years, been making them into movies. While they (according to my wife) aren't too consistent with the books, they are also movies that deal with things like family, faith, and love. Try to find something like THAT on the major networks.
One last comment - it's also how you define "family friendly". I'm not saying that everything my kids watch is TV-G. It's not. While my two-year-old loves Winnie the Pooh, I have no issue with my 9-year-old watching something like some episodes of Mythbusters (although my wife and I are required to watch them first before she can). The mild language on that show doesn't bother me. The sexual innuendo on most broadcast shows DOES. As does some characteristics that you can't quantify in ratings. For example, when my 9-year-old was really small, she used to watch a show on PBS called Caillou (I have NO idea how to really spell it). It's a show made for small kids - but we banned it in our house. Why? Not for language, that's for sure. The boy on the show is a whiny little brat, that's why. My daughter started to pick up some of those habits, so the show got cancelled in our house. Also, the show tends to put all the blame on everything on the parents. As in "his parents couldn't understand why Caillou was angry..." Teaching the kids that throwing a tantrum is totally justified, and it's just the fact that your parents don't get it.
Like I said, I'm not trying to sanitize what my kids watch, but I really don't like having to quickly change the channel when I hear something that's explicit.
