Software Problems?

On the 4700's - is there a reason why you can't get into the menu to see if you are set up on the right satellite? My unit won't get past the "youre recvr is not authrzied" screen. Is this something Dish is doing or the unit? Dish told me I had to have service with them before I could get to the menu screen.

You should be able to get to the PD&S screen before the rcvr is activated. In fact, when you call in to activate it the CSR will probably ask you what kind of signal you are getting.

If you can't "dig down" thru the menus to the PD&S screen because you get the "not authorized" message I would expect it's because the access card shows a balance owed. Did you buy it used or was it given to you?

You might try a "hard" reset by pulling the AC cord for a while & replugging it. I assume you have already tried pulling the card & reseating it all the way in the slot.

No this unit came with a clear card. I used it for over a year - then the monthly bill got out of hand do to unemployment. There is a balance, but that shouldn't keep the unit from showing the menu screens and letting me in to look at the signal meter. Why would they lock me out? doesn't make sense. I pulled the card out and also did the hard boot and it still won't let me past the "front door" :shrug:

Seeing there are no 4700's any more they should all have been upgraded software wise to 4900's. You are probably having a problem due to outdated software. Try calling DISH technical support and then getting connected to advanced technical support they have been the best help in getting out of date software units to work again.

I'm sorry I meant 4900. It was a 4700 and it's already been updated. So other than that I can't think of anything else it could be. Just one more reason to go back to DTV

If there's a balance owed on the card you won't be able to re-activate it until it's paid. You're "locked out" of the PD&S screen so you can't move & reinstall it or sell it to someone else & get it activated on another account.
