Just got a call from the installers...to be here in the next few minutes for my install. After 2 months can't wait. I used the "sun" position guidelines and hope all the sat's are visible (currently have the basic round dish)--I have lots of trees! . Can't wait for HD.
I'll let you know how it goes <fingers crossed>.

:( Well, as I suspected/worried about...line of sight issues. Although the round dish has worked fine for years, apparently the HD Satellites are in lower positions. After looking around, tech said that 99 was a problem and 119. Said that in the future most programming will move off of 119. Also told me that 2 of the new satellite positions are not certain as they have not launched those birds yet. He suggested I wait until they launch the new satellites, then he could actually see the sat's with a dish without installing, running cables, etc.
He seemed to know what he was talking about and did spend an hour or so testing different spots, but I can't help feeling like part of the issue is that it was late (showed up after 5pm) and it was getting cold and dark. He offered for a "supervisor" tech to return for another survey. Today I will look precisely at the sun positions for each sat using LITZDOG911's "Use the Sun to Site New Satellite Dish" info. Not sure now, if I am interested in waiting for another service call (after waiting 2 months for the first install, having the first appointment cancelled, and taking a two 1/2 days off of work).
Comcast is starting to sound like a more attractive (or maybe my only) option to get HD programming (beyond my local OTA's). So...anybody know what kind of deals they (Comcast) are offering??

I'm afraid your installer was rather clueless about the new satellites. They will be parked at the same location as the current Ka-band (HiDef) satellites -- 99 & 103-deg W. Use the Sun to check your possible dish sites for the 99, 101, 103, 110 and 119-deg satellites.
He is correct that eventually the HiDef channels will migrate to just the 99 & 103-deg satellites, but that could take a year or two. Certainly most all new HiDef channels will be beamed from 99 & 103-deg W.
